Am I AIMING wrong ???

This is a 1953 Remington game master, the elevation wedge is removed.

When I shoot at 80 and 100 yards, it looks like im 1 to 1.5 feet high...

When I aim, im using the top (ears) of this rear sight...

There's a small little groove at the very bottom, it's nearly the exact width of the front sight,

It kinda seems like this is what I need to aim through.

Can anyone help me out here ?211812

Hi. You're correct. You should be aiming through the little notch at the bottom. Your front sight must be awfully short if it's still that high without the rear sight ramp! Here's what the "correct" sight picture should look like. Ed

Yep, put the front blade in the notch.

And yes, I was roughly 2ft high yesterday, I was splitting the difference of yesterday and a year ago when I was shooting paper.

Is there a name for this type of rear sight?

It's this a Remington thing ?

It's called a buckhorn rear sight. Lots of manufacturers use them.

Yours is a semi buckhorn, redlegEd's is a 3/4 buckhorn. On a full buckhorn, the "horns" almost touch. Put the bead in the u-notch and fire away.

Interesting, I actually thought the sight ears were to see the animal.

Theoretically, if that were the case, this sight would be great.....

With both eyes open, the sights appear superimposed on the target. With the full buckhorn you can use the top, where you were ,as a long range sight. Or so I've read, never tried it myself.

Just something to check here... is part of the front blade broken off? I've seen a lot of these blades, very thin and with a little rib or bead on top. This upper part somehow would get broken off and it looked like you had a plain blade, but it would be 1/8" or so short, so the shooter would be elevating the muzzle by that amount to see the top edge of the front blade as it remained. I would think that sight setup should be able to zero in at 50 feet, if all were right.
