BP Unavailable in Ireland

Due to a combination of anti gun legislation and transpoźrt difficulties, BP is banned in the Republic of Ireland and is legal but almost unavailable in Northern Ireland (UK). The supply of BP substitutes is similarly affected. As a result I have started using nitro powder in my .45-90 and .45 Lc. I shoot what I can get in my muzzleloaders.

My question is: in a situation where black powders and Bp substitutes are unavailable, is there any other propellant that can be used in muzzleloaders?

This is gun control in its most illogical extreme and US and Canadian shooters really should take note. The consensus in Ireland is that target shooting sports could be dead in twenty years.

Blackhorn 209 is sold as a sub but it is basically smokeless with smoke added. http://www.blackhorn209.com/

If available it works great in cartridge guns and muzzleloaders that use 209 primers.

It is the closest thing to the early 1900's bulk smokeless powder for muzzleloaders.

It not available I am not aware of any of the current smokeless powders that I would use for a BP only firearm.

I'd seriously consider making it, it's not that difficult, just pay attention to details and you'll have some decent boom powder. :)

imho, the better, if not best white powder available today for the 19th century bp cartridge guns is still AA5744.

as to trad flintlock muzzleloaders, they truly need real bp. i'd either smuggle it in or make it.

I fear something like this here. I'm in my mid 40's and one of the younger members here on the forum, according to a poll taken not too long ago. It seems the younger generations are not taking to the shooting sports like the past generations. Could it be a planned attack of bad publicity, liberal teachers, corrupt media and/ or politicians? Possibly just a lazy generation of slugs who would rather set on there backsides or gaze at the cellphone than take a walk in the woods? My fear is the war against guns will be closer to being won with the passing of each generation.

Just loaded my 1st batch of AA5744 under some 400 gr boolits in 45/70. I like the way they sound and were easy on the shoulder. Hopefully, next weekend will be a little warmer and less windy as I would like to chrono and put a few shots on paper before I load a ammo box full.
