You have to go back a long time to get ballard rifling. You want an "A" model if they ever made one in 35 Remington. Can't imagine they didn't at some point.

336A from 1948 until they went to Microgroove. I've seen a couple of the 336A models in 35 Remington, my 336A is in 32 Winchester Special, 1949, 2nd year production.

Howdy !

I've got one of the last M-336 XLR .35Rem's made @ the old CT plant.

It has a 24" SS 12-groove w/ " Ballard rifling ". It is not " cut-rifled.

The rifle is spectacularly accurate, and good looking to boot.

IMHO - IF you locate one, you would do well to $$$ one of these XLRs; made @ the zenith of Marlin's lever gun experience.

The XLR is really sweet, I'm surprised Remlin has kept it around. Looks like the .308 Marlin Express has joined the .307 WCF though.

Mine has the long barrel and half magazine. Love that rifle. Seems like it was from 1950.

I saw 35rem at a gun-show a couple of months ago By the serial number it was made in the mid-70's and the asking price was ~$125, but my buddy talked me out of it ( the guy's a real Debbie downer, I'm not taking him as a wingman to gun-shows anymore)

The downside is the stock looked like it spent a couple of years riding in a pickup truck UNDER a load of Gravel
and the condition of the metal made it look like it had spend a decade in someone's Duck Boat.

But to me it looked like a good project to have "wrapped" in treebark or similar camo after a careful de-rusting
because the bore was fine, the breech plugged with a greased Fired case and the muzzle capped with electrical tape

I have a 336A in 35rem (1955 IIRC) with ballard rifling, shoots very well. Have the 45-70, and 30-30 in the XLR series. The XLR's will flat out shoot. Bought a second XLR in 30-30 and JES turned it into a 356Win. Might have an extra 336A in 35 rem stuck in the back of the safe, it has wood from Boyds stocks. Was going to turn it into a 356win, but came across the XLR and did it instead so it gathers dust

Shooting Supply in westport MA has a marlin and private label (maybe sears) in 35 remington in stock last I knew
$400 or so. give a ring, ask for Mark and tell him I sent you

The 2 on GB are $750 and $1800, a bit excessive ? (when a brand new carbine has a $492 street price)

I picked my 336A up at Gander Mt in Green Bay WI in 2005'ish for $249.95. It absolutely dotes on 250 gr RCBS sillywet boolits. It was made sometime in the 50's with half magazine, ballard rifling and 35 Rem chamber. A real sweetheart.

I did a bit of research on them when I got mine. 1948 is the introductory year for the 336A, IIRC. The .35 was added to the line in 1950. Marling went to Microgroove rifling around 1955 or so, but could be a year or 2 earlier.

A Ballard rifled .35 had been on my "shut up and take my money!" list for several years. Just walked into my LGS one day, and saw a 336A up on the rack. NRA 95%. Bluing was perfect, just a slight hickey on the stock near the butt. $450. It never left my hands from the time I picked it up for inspection until I was filling out the 4473. (I have made the mistake of setting one down on the counter to look at something else before)

I jut bought a brand new 336 in .35Rem a couple of months ago.
Used it this season to put 2 doe in the freezer.
It's a new model, with the Micro-Groove rifling.

It is extremely accurate and I like it a lot, especially since I got it during the rebate.
