I have tried loading shot shells for a .38/357, 44 magnum and 45 Colt. The maximum effective range is about 15' or 5 yards. I use the blue Speer capsules........robin

I have a shot load I want to post but I'm not sure how to do it. I don't see a "post new " here.

ss346 it's "+ Reply to Thread" at the top left.

I'm not sure what we're supposed to post here, but I'm at the case forming stage so by the time I get these 200 or so rounds loaded I figure I'll have found out :)

Shot Load for .45ACP Revolver ( Have not tried it in a semi aut0, but it may work? Depending on your gun. some jam, some feed anything)

take a 30-06 or .308 rifle brass. stick it in the revolver cylinder and use a sharpie to mark where it protrudes. then use a small pipe tube cutter that plumbers us to slice off the extra brass. deprime the Brass. size the brass if it sticks in the revolver. insert the brass into a single stage press like a rockchucker (This does not work well in a Dillon square deal) and install your new primer and add 10 grains of RedDot (or fff Black Powder if your wanting more noise and smoke) with a piece of cardboard wad on top. ( Make the wad out of old cardboard corn flake boxes, anything thin works well as it is just a separator. add enough #9 to #11 birdshot to fill it to the top of the brass and then add a few more pieces of thicker cardboard wads. Gently crimp the brass as you would your regular bullet with the crimp set as high as possible. this will squish the shot and powder down tight. A more elegant word would be to compress it if your so inclined. have some hot beeswax & Lard & Dawn dish detergent ready in a pot and drip a spoon full onto the top. this waterproofs the shot load and helps lubricate the shot. Range is limited but it works great if your mowing the lawn and want to blast mice that come running out of the tall grass. if it wasnt a million degrees below zero upside I would go blast some targets and take a picture. I think the mice are on holiday somewhere under the snow anyway. 211475

Here is a set of photos which depict the process for assembling .44 Game Getter shot cartridges in the Starline 5 in 1 Blank cases, using the RCBS .44-40 Game Getter Long Shot, or .45 ACP Shotshell dies. Because the flash hole in these cases is VERY large, .140", powder charges must be kept mild. I use 5 grains of Bullseye, a Buffalo Arms .44 card over the powder, then Federal 410SC shot cup with 1cc of No.8 shot. I use either with a .36 Walters card top wad or a .36 cast round ball inserted inside the top of the shot cup before seating and crimping in the RCBS shotshell die.

These 5 in 1 shot rounds are useable in the .44 Special, .44 Magnum, .38-40, .44-40 and .45 Colt, as well as in old .44/12mm shotguns with their original short chambers.

Optionally a .36 cal. round ball can be inserted inside the shot cup instead of a card wad. In next post are typical patterns for the Ball & Shot load at 15 and 25 ft. from Ruger 4-5/8" .45 Colt Blackhawk.

First time I was surprised by a gun's recoil was when my buddy had some buck shot 410 cartridges in a side by side... The thing he didn't tell me is that the trigger fired which ever hammer was cocked (or both)... The gun was maybe 5" long with a 2" handle...

That thing nearly boinked me! Never did get him back for that one!

Never did a ball and shot load. I am going to have to give it a try. Nice work.

Full water bottle at 15' full penetration with pellet holes 360* around the bottle, they are stiff loads and would not use in a weaker revolver but from the looks of the bottle, along with everything else I've shot testing them, I am sure they would make shredded meat out of any viper!
