I have a Lyman 44 mold and was curious about using a wax wad under the bullet(it's plain base)

No need what so ever! Nothing wrong with a PB as it is.

I had excellent results on a 32 mag that I had using wax wads. With the wads, the accuracy was one inch or less at 25, more than twice as good s without. I do agree that if you have a perfect bullet to start with that they are of little use. I was essentially putting a bandaid on a bad (commercial) bullet design but it did make it work. If you try them, it is best to not let them set for long periods or let them get hot (dashboard, car trunk, etc.) as the wax can and does give off vapors that will mess up the powder charge. I fired some that had sat a long time and they were squibs to the point that I had to punch the bullet out of the barrel. The powder charge was just a solid mass.
