Corned beef brisket, sauerkraut and collard greens. :)

I just added collards to the menu , bought 4 bundles at the grocery store yesterday coming home . Usually the store 'fresh' greens are wilted and trashy but these looked fresh picked . Stripped the stems and got em in a pot with 6 thick slices of good bacon cookin low and slow .

Boy, howdy! That all sounds like some purdy good vittles ('vitcuals' fer city folk).

We are having black eyed peas, ham, and cornbread. Pecan pie for desert. Might need a nip or three of Canadian Club small batch reserve (12 yr) or some Crown Royal afterwards -- and a nap.

When Sherman marched through the South, he scorched the earth killing domestic animals and burning all crops except the peas which he did beleave people eat. Black Eyed peas save many families from starvation.

Southerners eat them on New Years Day for luck and remember what the war criminal Sherman did. He would have been hanged if his side didn't win. There never was an uglier man, with a blacker soul, than Wm. Tecumseh Sherman.

Black Eyed Peas, ham and cornbread for me tomorrow. DIXIE FOREVER!

Pork and sauerkraut. To eat anything else on New Year's Day brings bad luck for the year.

I am going to my sister's house for the day. Not sure what she is fixing, but I am taking tamales and pecan pie to add to the menu. It will be the first time in years that my daughter (that is on active duty in the Navy) will see her cousin that is also on active duty in the Navy.

As all true Southerners, Black eyed peas and cabbage and some meat.

That's the ticket. All of my life as passed down by my Grandmother. Black eyed peas for luck, cabbage for money and this year in place of the pork loin we will smoke a prime rib roast.

In all my 76 years this is the first I`ve heard of the southern New Years tradition of having black eyed peas.
And the reason why. Interesting.
I think I will drag some top sirloin out of the freezer for dinner...dale.

well we won the war so no need for eating leaves and pieces of pig out of the scrap pile. Venison loin on the grill, baked potato beans canned from the garden. Cheese cake for desert. I did have sausage gravy for breakfast just out of respect for the south!!

Went with chuck roast. With the high temp of -3f having the oven on 3 hours helped heat the house! Roasted taters and carrots with the roast and the primary food group called gravy over everything!

sounds good. About all the roasts we eat are venison. I get a lot of it and beef is just to expensive these days. About once a year the wife will buy a chuck roast. I have to admit they do taste pretty good.

Mentioned chili to the wife and it didn't go over too good. Settled for firing up the oven on the clean cycle to run 4) hours to clean out some stuff she spilled when making the Christmas pies this year. The warmth of the oven was enjoyed by the German Shepherds that chose to lay down near it. The oven came out clean and the heat helped the energy efficient furnace heat the house.

Ended up with Chicken soup with noodles and rice in it. Still a peasant meal to start the new year.

I made the same basic meal that we have enjoyed on New Year's Day for many years. Didn't have a Ham Hock so I started with 4 thick strips of Pepper Bacon coarsely chopped and about 1 lb of Pork Stew meat, saute'd with a chopped White Onion in about 1 1/2 tsp of EVO. When the Stew Meat was starting to brown and the Bacon starting to render well I added 1 can of Rotel Tomatoes followed by 2 cans of H2O, 1 cup of Dried Blackeyes & 2 shakes of Montreal Steak Seasoning. Sealed up the Instant Pot and selected the Bean Function. 40 minutes later it timed out and started to naturally release pressure for another 20 minutes while the Cornbread finished. Stirred in about 2 handfuls of chopped Spinach and served. It was probably the Best I've ever made, gotta love these Danged Instant Pots. Happy New Year [smilie=s:
