I'd like to propose a new topic in the Gunsmithing section that should have a minium of chatter, and a maximum of usefulness.

It should be titled something like "Where can I find..."

Thread titles might be something like "milsurp barrels" (With the "Where can I get" understood).

Responses might be something like
"http/(Whatever).com has new milsurp 8mm barrels for 98 Mausers"

Another title might be "Underhammer BP rifles"
and an appropriate response would be
"Try htt[/(whatever).com. I bought one from him last year."

It wouldn't be limited to answering a specific request. If you find something you think is neat, chances are someone else will too. For example, you could post: "Table of trade gun names and their makers", and add "<http://www.hoosiergunworks.com/index.html>" Parts too!

Short version: Maximum useful infomation, minimum chatter.

Sounds great, make it with links by category, gun smiths, mould makers, scopes and mounts etc. etc.

Hi Doc,

I'm not sure what you meant by 'make it with links'. Some operations (believe it or not) still don't have a web site, particularly if they're a one-man operation as so many gunsmiths are.

The way I envisioned this, each thread would constitute a catagory. For example, there might be one thread (IE Scope Repairs) with numerous responses, each giving a source for repairs. And another titled "Gunsmiths", with each response giving the name (& a link or other contact data) of a 'Smith that did good work for you. There might be ten - or a hundred - responses in any thread.

Molly, you hit the nail on the head. You are right links was kind of broad statment. I should have said contact information.

Yea, Like "Where can I get an original Hi Wall action w/set trigger(s), for under $500?"

I'd be posting that with increasing price ceilings on a weekly basis!

Morgan

P.S., I'd be more than willing to settle for a Stevens 44-1/2.[smilie=1:

(VBG) Morgan, you're a piker! If you're gonna dream, dream big: Ask for a recently widowed lady that just wants someone to haul all those nasty old guns and lathes, etc away.

But THIS thread is for posting sources, not prices. Prices will change all the time. Sources tend to be a bit more stable over the long haul. 'Sides, I've got dibs on all the widder ladies 'round bout hyar!

Molly

BTW, there's a place in Pa that's making NEW 44 1/2 actions, among others. Don't recall any more than that, but you might find them with an internet search.

No way!
My widow dream is of the one with the 427 Shelby Cobra (AC) in tha barn, who sells it to me for the price of a Ford Cobra(Mustang).

Morgan, we're way off topic. I'll PM you, and lets try to keep this a "Where can I find..." thread.

I need to buy a set of 1" Weaver sidemount detachable rings (high style) for a Savage 340.

I'd also like to see if I could use Weaver 1" Long (and/or maybe short) sidemounted rings too. These are not the same thing as above. They have a set of rings integral to a side mount plate. These would be for possible use on a 310 Cadet Martini rifle. Any comments or advice would be appreciated here.

Here are links that illustrate what I'm looking for:

Before I order anything on-line, I figured I would check and see if anybody has a set I could use that was laying around unneeded.
