Many Lefaucheux-design revolvers, including an Italian one for the 12mm. French Thick Rim cartridge which was designed to cover the chamber slot in converted revolvers, had a spring fixed on the outside to do the job of your safety. When the hammer was raised from the fired position to where the non-existent half-cock notch would have supported it, it was blocked by a tooth on that spring. But when it descended from full-cock, it wasn't. Like most things Lefaucheux, it was a lot more practical than it sounds.

These parts were made on my homemade lathe and milling machine. They are in the basement where it is warm. It has been cold here for the last couple of weeks (-32 this morning) and I have no heat in the outside shop.

Can you believe, back in the old days, it used to be OK to shoot inside of your home.
Must have been great family fun.
I remember once an uncle showed me how to make wax BB's to shoot inside of the house.

Depending on where you live, etc, you can still shoot inside your home.

Years ago they used to make plastic .38 special cases and some in other calibers too. You used plastic/rubber like wadcutter bullets and a primer only. No tools other than something to poke out the spent primers with. The plastic bullets tended to last a long time when you reused them too. I still have those around here at home someplace too. Anyway it was great fun to shoot indoors at home. It wasn't too loud using primers only with a long barrel pistol.

I took a look and Speer sells the plastic bullets and plastic cases too. Another brands sells plastic bullets too.

You can order rifled air gun barrels in .177 or .22. I've considered building a very simple parlor/garden pistol using sections of one of my take off airgun barrels. I was thinking more on the lines of using nail gun blanks. I picked up a box of low powered Grey nail gun blanks at a yard sale years ago and only fired a few in my .22 LR revolvers.

Many years a gun I made a pen gun for firing odd sized nail gun blanks I'd found on the sidewalk near a construction site. These were at least twice as long as the .22 blanks and about the diameter of a .22 magnum case. I found a lead split shot sinker about the same size and stuffed it down the bore and found it had considerable penetration on scrap wood. That would be more power than I'd want for a parlor pistol.

Don't really need one these days, I have some high quality CO2 pistols with high and low velocity settings for the strikers that cover the purposes I'd put a low velocity parlor or garden gun to. Still its satisfying to experiment.

This was mostly around 1900 when the rich would have indoor gun ranges at home. And or they would use the small rim fire shotguns out back for little target shooting too. They mostly had mansions and big backyards. It was all the rage at the time. It would be the highlight of get togethers at their homes.

wax bullets in a 38 special is lots of fun, but don't use your wife's new towels as a backstop to catch the wax for re-use. they go right thru.
