So I have a Lyman 450 lube sizer, the orange one. I need a new O ring for the seal plug. Lyman lists this as part number 2990623

I am waiting to hear back from them. Can anyone tell me what size O ring this is? Is there a local hardware store that stocks them?

I'd just prefer to pick up some in town and not have to order them from Lyman and pay shipping.....

Thanks in advance.

I got mine at the auto parts store in town. I just took my old seal and the seal plug with me and went through the o ring box until I had the correct one. Hope this helps.

The O-Ring you are looking for, the color shows the material it is made from is Red/Orange/Rust is Silicone Global Compound S70. You might be able to find at a local hardware or auto parts store but may be best to figure out the size and buy on line. You can try this place http://www.theoringstore.com/index.php?main_page=page_2

I bought a set at a very reasonable price from a vendor on eBay. Worked like a champ.

The o-ring that goes on the top of the sizer dies is: Luber/sizer Lyman & RCBS 014= ½” ID by 1/16” thick

Lyman 450 bottom o-ring 023= 1 1/16” ID by 1/16” thick
Lyman 450 double plunger o-rings 212= 7/8” ID by 1/8” thick

I did not have the sizes when I rebuilt mine so I just took the parts to the Case/International dealer and rummaged through his parts drawers. There is a lot of hydraulic stuff on modern tractors and implements and they had a lot bigger selection of "O" rings than the parts store had. I'll copy and save the above numbers for the future!

Orings of the proper size can always be made from a larger oring or oring stock of the correct diamater material if you have a little super glue laying around. Simply cut the oring stock to lenght , matters not if from bulk or a larger oring and glue the ends together with a tiny dab of super glue.

Do a search for Lyman 450 in Sporting Goods-Hunting Equipment-Hunting Gun Reloading Equipment
There are a couple of different options there.
You just need to scroll down the page because a bunch of different parts show up.

If you're talking about the oring for the bottom plug, I found a square oring that works perfect.

PM me and I'll send you one.

My local Ace Hardware had them. Might be worth checking to avoid having to order and wait.

waco, A piece of tablet backing or shirt cardboard cut to fit the base/"footprint" of your #450 works 100% to stop leaks. (Don't ask how I know this! And, the idea isn't mine, but the late Ken Mollohan's aka Molly, one of the founders of the CBA.) The entire process, including dismounting and remounting the #450 takes less than 10 minutes.

You can buy a kit to make o rings. Lock tite makes one.

I tried this as well. A chunk of beer carton cut to fit the foot print with a thin piece of foam cut to the same size. I have not tried it yet.

Thank you! PM sent

I'll get the oring out to you this week.

I also drilled and tapped the base so the plug can't come out.

I received the factory base plug o ring from Lyman. It is much smaller than the slot in the plug and didn't seal at all. I'm trying the chip board trick now. If that doesn't work I'll go to clear silicone.
