Who's using a RMR style sight?

The more I see these handguns with the mini reflex sights on them like the trijicon RMR, the more intrigued I am. I put a Burris fastfire 3 on my Ruger mark 4 and it's so much fun to plink with.

Who here is running a RMR style sight on their handgun? What handgun and what sight and how do you like it. It seems most manufacturers are bringing one out right now ready to go out of the box. Been eyeing these and they look like fun.

I have a Burris fastfire iii on a Glock 40 10mm. Added a threaded barrel and shoot it suppressed with heavy 220 grain loads. I also shoot some hotter, supersonic loads. The suppressor keeps the muzzle blast down. however, powder residue coats the fastfire lens after 2-3 magazines. I like the reflex sights, but it takes some getting used to.

I have a new rmr06 sitting in a drawer. Bought it a month ago when cabelas ran them on sale. Used some points and gift cards too. It was too good a deal to pass up.

RMR RM06 (3.25 MOA dot) on a Glock 19, Rem 870 and Contender Encore .357 Maximum... I like it! Especially now that I've moved past 50 years old...

Been using reflex sights since the early 90's. Have two of the first Trijicon full size. Had one on a BH for a while, other on my 1894 Marlin. I like them, especially for low light hunting.

Recently purchased the Sig P-320 RX Compact, which comes standard with a Sig Romeo 1 miniature reflex sight, as well as suppressor height night sights. Allows you to use either sight platform, with out removal of the reflex. I took to them, like a duck to water.

Trijicon spoiled me with totally automatic operation. No switches to turn on, or rheostats to adjust. Almost every other brand do not have this feature. Romeo 1 comes close, in that it is motion activated, no need to turn on. As soon as you pick it up, it's on. It does have a rheostat but only 5 settings and even at the highest it's not blinding enough to ruin your night vision.

Price wise the Romeo is almost half as much as the RMR's......so far I like it, however I'm willing replace it with a RMR Trijicon, if it were to fail.

I run a number of these sights on guns both hunting handguns and carbine rifles.

The Trijicon RMR I have is on a Glock Model 40 10mm it is fantastic well built reliable sight. Even the really low cost Sightmark ones I have on couple of rifles have worked really well but lack the brightness adjustment. For hunting I prefer the brightness adjustment so that I can bring it down during low light conditions. I really love these sights on hunting handguns I personally prefer them on revolvers and semi auto handguns used for hunting. The longer range Encores handguns I scope up and use primarily from stationary stands. I also think these sights serve a great option for battle rifles so long as you have open sights back ups.

I have only done it so far on my USPSA open guns but it will be spreading out more in the no so distant future.

My Open Division gun started with a slide-ride Trijicon RMR which is a great little optic but strictly for competition it evolved into a C-More railway on a 90° mount. My next open gun will be going back to a smaller RMR type this time a Leupold Deltapoint. All the rage in USPSA these days. I also have an XDm (bought before Springfield sold the 2A community down the river) with a Fastfire III on it. I also have a Canik TP9-SFX that is my Production division gun that will likely get a dot to run carry optics at some point.

I have an astigmatism and it causes me a lot of grief with iron sights, i can shoot a dot gun so much better and much faster. It really is my preferred cup of tea. Still trying to evolve with my changing vision with irons. Its tough.

FNX 45 Tactical with an RM07 mounted. If you keep an eye out, they made some changes to some of the RMR sights and a few places have put a few of the versions of the RMR on sale. I got mine from Cabelas for around $350 (about the price of a Burris Fast Fire III), so was very happy with the purchase.

the bigger dot is quicker to pickup, and I don't need long range accuracy from the pistol, so no need for a small dot (a 6MOA dot at 100 yards basically would cover a 6" plate). With a rifle the smaller dots are ideal (I have a 2MOA trijicon MRO on an AR) because you have a good cheek weld and it's easy to pick out the smaller dot. For the pistol it takes a while to find the small dots, so for quicker shooting the bigger dots are nicer. At least for me.

I'd like to get one or two more to put on some other guns, maybe one on a 10/22 and one on a Mark II I have. I like the red dots for just playing around, magnification for longer range shots...

Doc, I don't have an RMR, but I do have three Fastfire 3's. One is on a S&W 686+, another on a Marvel 22 conversion (my most accurate pistol by far). The last is on an M1 Carbine. I had another on a Win 94, but went back to a Williams peep sight for it. The Fastfire 3 is a great gunsight for the money. Vortex has some that I'd like to try too. With the Marvel conversion and Fastfire 3 combo it will shoot into one ragged hole at 50 meters from a sandbag rest using Eley pistol match ammo. I have it on a Kimber frame. Shoots better than most of my 22 rifles! I love these mini-sights.

I finally received my RMR and mounted it on my FNX-Tactical and it is definitely the cats meow for me. Super easy to pick up the sight and target. All I get it bang-clang on steel. Only issue is the front of the RMR glass is now filthy from using reloads and 231/LBT Blue lube. Gonna have to figure out the best way to clean without scratching.

Try some Zeiss lense cleaning wipes. That is what I have been using with no issues as of yet.

I think I've seen them locally at Wally World over by the eye glasses.

The eyeglass cleaning cloths at Wal Mart sell for about $2 for a box of 100 individually packaged wipes. They are a non-scratch paper-like cloth saturated in isopropanol. I use them often, and recommend them.

I will be using a Vortex Viper on my Walther Q5 Match this summer. U ahe the Ciper on a CZ New Edition last year until I decided on the pistol to use this year in Optic Division. The Walther is incredibly accurate for a polymer striker fired pistol. Vortex warranty is 2md to none which was the deciding factor for me. I am other manufacturers are good too but... I had to go with the one with a very good reputation. They replaced a Sparc I had no questions asked with a newer generation. They mailed the replacement before they had the old one!

For pistols, the Optic ready slides do offer some advantages over mounting the Optic with a dovetail mount. The latter sits lower and more mimics the height of irons. The results in less time to transition from the iron sights to the Optics from my experience.

As a matter of interest guys in the US who have been shooting the IDPA Classifier report much lower scores using the Optic over the irons.

I use the Trijicon RMR Dual-Illuminated Sight - 9.0 MOA Green Dot on my Q 5 and RRA 9 mm PCC, these have really worked great for me in the USPSA matches. I am also trying a Leupold Delta Point with a 7 moa with a red triangle on the Q 5 .

These optics are not always faster than iron sights depending on the match.

Considering a RMR, Delta Point, Vortex Venom, etc but cannot decide on MOA size dot. Be shooting to 100 yards and closer. Leaning towards 5-6MOA but not sure if I want the dot covering 6” at 100 yards, but then a again 3 MOA my be slower to pick up.

Never used a red dot so any advice or “lessons learned” would be much appreciated.

Then again, might buy a 3.25 and 6 MOA to see what works best for hunting and plinking.

The 6.5 MOA that I have is perfect for 50 yards and under on the 45 acp

The smaller the dot.....the better for accuracy, at longer distances. Consider a triangular aiming point. Use the whole triangle for close range and the apex of the triangle for long range.

RMR with 3.5 MOA adjustable dot on a FA 97 and S&W 69. Makes them easy 100 yard guns. The adjustable brightness is mandatory for precision shooting.
