Looks like you'll be having fun there :)

I keep meaning to ask & spacing it, anyone know where to get the mentioned shoulder stock for 1860s?

Congratulations on a neat gun.

Now I need FFFg powder, and a source of #10 caps. The #11 ones I have for my rifle are too big.

I love an 1860. It's my favorite bp gun. Have fun with it!

Smokeywolf - Thank you!

frykasj - I've heard some manage with #11s but yep the right cap is a wise choice :)

("Banana for scale" is an imgur meme, dunno where it originated but sorta funny :))

It arises from a very valid point in philosophy. If two little green men are sent to investigate earth lifeforms, who is giving the more accurate report?

The little green man who uses a micrometer and says "Bananas are 87.36958 ¥ɮɁʄϣζ long? Or the little green man who takes a look and says "Bananas are about 80 to 90 ¥ɮɁʄϣζ long?

From an old Colt Industries pamphlet:
"Percussion caps are now made in sizes from nine to thirteen. Ten and eleven are the best numbers for the small and medium-sized arms, and twelve for the larger sizes, although, as different-sized nipples are sometimes met in specimens of the same model, no hard and fast rule can be given. It is better to have caps slightly too large than too small, as large caps can be pinched together at the bottom enough so they will stay on the nipples, but small ones must be driven down on the nipple by the blow of the hammer, and this process frequently cushions the blow to the extent of producing a misfire."

A wise man said to a young lad----That's a fine piece of iron.
But that Banana ain't a gonna hunt

The nipples can also be filed down a tad and they will get fatter.
Caps will get tighter.

I have three (3) Colt’s 1860’s from their 2nd generation production line. I love shooting them. I probably have a half dozen bananas sitting on the kitchen counter.

I picked this original up last summer. Lots of original blue left, inspector's marks, a cartouche on each side of the grip. It shoots well, even with the bent trigger guard. The cylinder will not interchange with my Pietta 1860.
The Pietta is the smoothest cap and ball revolver I have.

Be careful that you don't file them too short to adequately pinch the priming composition. Perfection is when the hammer breast bottoms out on the frame, and there is just the thickness of the brass cap between the hammer and the nipple.

If you have a good supply of one particular cap locally, it may be worthwhile buying replacement nipples to suit. Dixie and Track of the Wolf have them for most common cap and ball revolvers, ancient and modern.

Only one Remington repro at my house, but the bananas come and go.

That banana looks like a pre-safety warning model - I don't see any "Black Powder Only" markings anywhere on it - but then, maybe it's an "original" in unfired, pristine condition!?

The '60 ain't bad looking either! Enjoy!

And I found a set of CVA and one of Traditions on the evil auction site at about $16 for the 6, so I'll try one out :)
