I used to know, but I've forgotten..............what's the trick to removing the bolt from a Remington 541S .22 for cleaning? Pulling the trigger does not work, wiggling the safety does not work, and there doesn't appear to be a secret latch anywhere. Help, please?

I think you push the safety forward.

I just tried it on my 541S. It worked fine. However, I like to have never got the bolt back in. It took a lot of wiggling.

PS: never loan (1) your rifles; (2) your toothbrush; and (3) your wife.

AMEN, Bro! And thank you.

I guess I'll take it out of the stock and see if I can 'fiddle' something loose.

Vic,

I just pulled the bolt out of mine for a cleaning the other day. You have to have the bolt in the just right postion before it will let you ease it out. And yes...the safety forward as you do this.

You may be over shooting the point of where it releases, not sure. But that's my experience.

Thanks Guys! Once youse confirmed I DID remember how to do it I was less afraid of breaking something delicate.

I took it out of the stock: yup, gunge! Once cleaned up and with a dose of WD40, bolt stop worked like a charm and all is now happiness.

Is it not just one of the finest .22's ever? With Yellow Jackets mine competes on gopher shoots with .22-250s!

It is for a fact one of the finest 22s ever made. Find the ammo it likes and shoot one ragged hole groups at 50 yards. About 30 years ago I bought my daughter the plain jane version so she could squirrel hunt with it. Seems like it was left-handed like her. She was about 6, so I had the barrel and stock shortened to fit her. She still has it!! In fact, we were talking about it just a few minutes ago on the phone!
