Picked this up at the hillbilly flea market this weekend for a whopping $1 first off it’s not home made and it has bakealite grips and it is scary sharp. Can anyone shed any light on this?208940208941

Looks about the size sold for splitting deer pelvis bones. Might do an image search for "hunting hatchet."

I can't remember the manufacturer but those originally came as a two piece set with a hunting knife way back when. I've been looking for one for ages as my great grandfather had one when I was a kid and I loved it. It won't do "heavy" work but it does do well for light work, and chopping up fish bait, processing catfish, etc... Heck of a find these days, particularly for a price that can't be beat.

I seem to remember when Marbles sold those with a knife as goodolboy says. Also, Western Cutlery of Denver sold a set, but they had the leather washer handles.

Haven't seen one of those in a while; I do believe it's made by Marbles here in Gladstone MI, if so others are correct it was a 2 piece set with a sheath that held both, if it doesn't say marbles any where it may have been made by them for someone else

I would vote for Western, because it appears to have been made from a stamping, like an old Western fishing blade I have.

Buck also makes a hunting hatchet shaped like that. My hunting partner carries one. Black bakelight/plastic grips. His appears to be polished stainless steel.

That's a West-Cut knife and hatchet set. Look here at #150 about 1/2 way down the page.

Nope, West-Cut, the shape is exact, the handle two rivets, and the hachet has that V-notch for pulling nails.

Wow! I used to have one of those, or at least one very similar. Mine was a Western and I still have the knife, minus the scales. Man that brings back memories.
