Me and the wife bought a laser engraver to mess around with. Like we needed another hobbie. Here is a gun we have done.

Is it CNC/Computer controlled, or do you "free hand" it? The stock work looked flash, can it do checkering?

Nice work, can you tell us a bit more about the setup? How does it work, and price range for the equipment? There is a woodshop on the base where I work that has one available for use and I never even thought of putting it to use for my shooting hobby.

Its is a CO2 laser. We put a pic we want on the comp. Change it to the size we want , Then on the laser we set the speed and power and it will go from there. It will cut wood up to 1/8 with one pass. We can engrave or cut with it. We can use a chemical and mark on knife blades. It bonds with the metal to put a black marking on it. They etch glass, Mark leather. Lots to learn for us but its been fun. They have them on ebay starting around 3,000 or so .. You can check them out at epiloglasers.com and see what they can do..

Well iam going to bite have you thought about doing a service to others by engraveing things for them I would like to have a few things done. I did work at a sign shop and have seen these machines at work very percise and will do some fine work in the right hands boss did not buy one got a printer instead.
