Guys I have been buying wheel weights from a scrap yard here for .60 a pound. Thats the cheapest i could find.. The other day he had some lead he sold me for .43 cents a pound but iam not sure what it is. Heres a pic.

Anyone know what it is... Thanks Keith

ALthough I don't see the hole in the top, those certainly look like decoy weights.

There was no hole in them and they had right at 200 pounds worth of them.. I dont have any way to check them so I was hoping someone knew what they were.

cast a bullet out of it and then cast the same bullet out of ww and compare the weight of both of them. That will give you a good idea what the alloy is.

With the oxidzation (I know spelling LOL) on it appears to be pure, I've never gotten wheel weight showing like that.

I can't see the top of these to see if there's a hole where a an eyelet was or if there's a hole all the way through, but they look like old window sash weights. I've helped pull down some old houses and I always volunteer [smilie=1: to do the windows (those old weights were pure lead, depending on age of the house).

Can you bend them?

Yes I could bend them and it wasnt that hard.. I was thinking they were pretty soft. I just didnt know what they were.. Thanks for the help guys.

I am guessing they are decoy weights that have not yet had a hole drilled in them for the line.

i'm with cabeza here
the bending is a give-away, see if you can bend a ww of about the same thickness.

I use a corn bread stick cast iron pan to make up ingots. MR ART GREEN used to sell the pans as ingot molds, that is where i got one bought one at army surplus. Makes ingots that are about one and one half pounds. Looks like pure ,since it bends easy i would say it is pure. Bill

Odds are it is almost anything that someone had that would melt and pour into an ingot mould.

Lloyd is right, cast bullets of it (before you blend it with known good alloy) and weigh them. If you have a good micrometer you can also compare the un-sized diameter of known WW and this alloy 24 hours after casting and air cooling.

By weighing and measuring them you will not "know" what the alloy "is" but you can get an idea of how pure it may be. BOTH antimony AND/OR tin will reduce the weight. Antimony will increase the diameter.

I'm with fatman. They look like old window weights. It doesn't really matter though and I'll bet they are near pure. Most of your old lead is. Melt and use!

There is no scale but based on the wood deck planks they look far too small for window weights.

Here is a mould I got from Bill Ferguson that produces 1 1/2 pound ingots somewhat similar to yours.

They could be any alloy. I also like Lloyd's idea ! :)
