Need, info. & advice,,i think one of the E5CS-temp-controller's on my Ballis-caster ii,has a problem,,,,,it is a ooold caster,,( according to nvballistic,," it's before our time"). I see on here some have installed PID's on there pot's,,what do I look for to be equivelant ( or close) to what I have and where .I did ck on price for a new one ,,based on the no's on mine,,"SAY WHAT",,(, i'll pull the bake knob off my wife's new glass top stove first,,) any way could use some advice.

Why don't you check Hatch the vendor Sponsor that makes pids and automation for master casters.

Way beyond me but I'd be real tempted to check with Auber Instruments.

208150

Looks like that one?

Spec sheet ->http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/307/e5cs_ds_csm211-1189624.pdf

cliff note short spec info

1/16 DIN size
240vac
Relay output NOT SSR - verify that you don't have a SSR
SSR
208152

I would replace it with this -> https://www.auberinc.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=1
It is the same size hole.
It is NOT plug and play but its not gonna be that hard to be honest.
If you got a smart phone, I will give you my # and you can send me pictures of the existing hookup and I will be more then happy to help you.

HATCH

You might still have a SSR but the model # you list is relay output.
Either way, you can be fixed up and back in business for around $50.
Your not gonna get much cheaper because my cost from my supplier for a 1/16 DIN is @$35 shipped.
I just prefer the 1/32nd din size better

Thank you ,,Hootmix.

I just checked Ebay and I found some new ones from China for around $65. I see no reason not to use one of them or switch brands.

Later,,,, Hootmix,

You surely ought to know your not going to get 4 day delivery time from China. Mentioned it because of the inflated price of the used PID with the same PN.

One nice thing if you get the one Hatch suggested he said he'd answer questions for you. So would Auber's. Try that with the Chinese person and it probably wouldn't work out quite that nicely. FWIW

It's gonna be pretty much plug and play.
Will write out a wire chart in The next few days.

Thank you Hatch. Hey 6bg6ga,,had I took time to notice the reg. was coming from china,,i wouldn't have made that mistake. I'm with MikeW1,,Hatch's offer is to good to not go with him. Have read a lot of the back forum's on here ,,and 6bg6ga you seem to also be very up on the newer electronic's also.

It's pretty simple and real easy

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171122/f5e2cf9a05f2524894597f2308a7b5c1.jpg

That is the back of your existing PID.

Let's start top Row
right to left

L1
L2 or neutral if 120v
NO contact - this is the output
Common - this is jumped to L1
NC - not used

Bottom row

TC neg
TC *** (red)
Empty
?
?

The ? Ones might be alarm outs but they aren't used so no need to worry about it.

Now on the PID I suggested

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171122/a6f118ca7d92d939094a29a2ce05b0d1.jpg

4 is TC neg
5 is TC ***
7 is NO
8 is L1
9 is L2 or neutral

Keep in mind this is from my phone so I will have to double check what I typed but it should be right

yeah it looks right.

Most PID controllers that are AC are universal voltage - 85~264VAC/50~60Hz
The Auber one I suggested it that way.
The ones I provide with my PID setups are also that way.
On my Master Caster Automation panels, I use 24vdc PID controllers now.

Sooo,,the new Auben TC has a internal relay,,i can wire around old relay ,,go straight to one leg of heater?? My M2, has 2 pairs of leads from pots ,, 2-reds,2-blks,& TC's,,,so the heater element's are 120v,ea pair??( I know bear with me.)

HATCH
11-21-2017, 09:16 PM
No.
The internal relay doesn't do enough current to do that switching.
You existing PID has a internal relay too but its not much current at all

Auber = 7 amps @240vac
Existing = 1 amp @ 240vac

Where do you live?
If you lived within a couple hours I would come rebuild the PID section and bypass the relays.
Go with a SSR setup. Get a lot more life out of it.

Later ,,,,Hootmix.

I do electronics A/V and control for a living. All of this stuff is childs play. The only stumbling post for me with these is finding a unit that will fit into the opening in the control panel. The idea of spending $4-500 for a used PID with the same part number is stupid. You can either go 120,240, or 24volt for control voltage. Internal relay and its size is not a limiting factor because you can either use a contactor or external relay in conjunction with the PID.

HATCH

PID controllers are normally standard sizes
1/8,1/16,1/32
Rarely will you find a odd ball sized one.

His is a 1/16 size.
You can find a cheap replacement off of eBay and it would arrive in a month or so.
But we are talking about replacing a PID controller in a Casting machine.
I would rather deal with a USA supplier that has tech support in case there is issues.

I spoke to Hoot last night and I think his problem is a bad thermocouple as his second PID (the 'broken one') displays FFFFF which normally means no TC hooked up.

HEY,GUY'S,,i'm home ( finally),,long day,, as "Hatch" said after we spoke last nite,,i went back out to shop,,"it was a bad TC" . On the side where the rack& pinion are located the wire's coming from the pot were (are) plug in's,,,but I took out a screw ,pulled the cover off ,in side is a + & - prong's,,the braided covering had shorted between the 2 lead's ( burnt the end off the neg. side. Seperated the 2 put on heat shrink's ,," OH YEAH!!" Mak'n heat both sides. Both PID's and relay's working ,,,now just need to figure out what the 2 time delay sw's ( 1 on valve & 1 on lead control) operate . Ya'll take. tomorrow off (LOL) have a great THANKSGIVING,,.
