I was hoping somebody who has QL installed would be able to run a couple loads for me.
1st: .38 Special, 158g SWC, 5.6g Power Pistol, OAL 1.445
2nd: .45-70, 530gr FN (RCBS mold), 38gr H4198, OAL 2.54
Thanks in advance!

38 Special, 5.6 grains Power Pistol, OAL 1.445, Lee 158 grain SWC O.665" long, 6" barrel: 14.6K psi, 950 fps. Note that if your actual bullet measures longer than this it could raise pressures rather dramatically in this case.
45/70 530 grain RCBS measuring 1.45" long, 38 grains H4198 with COAl 2.54", 24" bbl: 1700 fps 55K psi!! So maybe you need to rethink this 45/70 load even if you are using a Ruger #1 for it. Also looks like it would be fairly compressed (load density = 106%). And this is another load where if your bullet measures longer than the 1.45" QL uses, the pressures would rise dramatically.

I’ll have to look again at that .45-70 load. I’ve already tested that one thoroughly, and it’s perfectly safe in my gun. I couldn’t recall the exact powder I used from memory, and couldn’t find my notes at the time of the post. I likely used 38gr of IMR 3031, and not 4198. I was just curious what QL would presict for a velocity on that one.
The .38 load is one that I’m still working with, and the above information greatly helps with my development.
It appears you got the data you are looking for, but I'll try to post the actual calculation page by QL for the 38 Special...

In that 45/70 load the use of IMR 3031 instead of H4198 makes rather a huge difference. The QL thinks the 3031 would run 30.5K psi and 1500 fps (24" bbl) which I'd guess would be safe in most anything newer than trap door Springfield; the 4198 at 55k psi could be too much for any of our golden oldies.

Yep...it’s 3031 in that load. And that 1500fps is really close to what I see over a chronograph.
