Went to the gunshow today and wandered around. Prices about average on everything. Crowds not large but they never seem to be on Sunday. I got some springs that boinged off into the air when putting an AR together, couple of boxes of Nosler 30Cal 110gr Varmageddon's at $20 each and a bottle of Accurate 1680 to try in my 300BLK and an AR Armorer's Wrench.

I did pass on a SW Model 57 .41 Mag with the original box for $995. Decent price for a near mint. Just couldn't do it, though.

Last aisle down I came upon a guy that had some old stuff and among the things were 3 bottles of H4831, the red and black cans with small metal poptop lids. Guy told me he would let them go $15 each or $39 if I bought all 3. I walked down the aisle and came back to buy them. Gave him $40 and he threw in a box of Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant .223 blanks.

On the side of the cans is stamped "this is WW2 surplus powder. Storage life is not guaranteed." Hope it's still good, if not no problem as the can's are near mint.

Well pop the tops and take a smell, look. At least they are in 3 containers and your odds are better. Even if one is bad your still ahead

Yeah, going to do it now. The guy told me to pop them at the show and see if they were good but I didn't.
Well, all 3 smell and look fine! :Fire:

Looks like this one?

Glad it's still good. I used up a fair amount a few years back. What I had worked great. Wish I could buy more for the $1.95 price tag on the can. Of course that's probably 1965 dollars, so adjusted for inflation it comes to about $15 per pound in 2017 dollars. :)

still at 15$ a great buy.
I still have some of the paper bag 4831 kicking around.
35 grs in the 30-30 with a 165-180gr boolit makes a nice quiet efficient round.

I have many cans of the old cardboard and steel can Hogdon and IMR Powders. They are all still good.

Must be a fluke, I have read here many times, that gun shows are no longer worth going to. lol

Not much there otherwise except lots of black rifles and plastic pistols.

I did see a Buffalo Classic with both a 45-70 and 38-55 barrel, both round, for $600

Great price on that one. Some of the empty cans are worth money.

I have had really good luck buying powder in the older containers. To date I have only had one can of 4198 that had turned. When poured out I had a rusty looking dust cloud.
Went directly to the garden for soil amendment.

Kinda what I was thinking. At $13/lb I will use up the powder then sell the empty cans. Probably get most of my money back.
