Finally...I got time to go to the gun club. Well I tried the lube I made. It was 1 pound beeswax and 13 oz of white lithium grease. I tried it in 3 calibers and at low and high pressure.

1, .357 Magnum with Ideal 358439 HP pure lead, 6.0gr Unique shot OK but no leading
2, 357 Magnum 160gr SAECO SWC Lynotype, 6.0gr Unique, very accurate and no leading
3, .45 Colt Ruger BlackHawk, 255 RCBS SWC-Kieth, 26.0gr H110, scary accurate, no leading
4, .45 Colt Ruger Blackhawk, 230 Lee T/C, 11.0gr Unique, accuracy was fair, no leading
5, .45ACP S&W 625, 200gr RCBS SWC pure lead, 6.0gr Unique, extemely accurate! No leading
6, .45ACP S&W 625, 230gr Lee T/C, 6.0gr Unique, very accurate, no leading.

This lube is pretty sticky and I revamped it by adding 3/8 pound of parafin wax to harden it up. I look foreward to trying it with my cast rifle boolits. I must admit that the recoil on my Ruger was a bit much with stag horn grips, I think I'll put the rubber ones on for the next heavy loads I shoot. The Ruger loves the Lynotype 255gr SWC. I think if I weight sort the 230s it'll shoot better. I think hardening the pure lead with say 10% Lynotype would doe better too.

The lube wasn't overly smokey like the 50/50 alox beeswax that I'm used to using. It did however have a different smell to it. It had a sweet smell, like a raspberry smelll for some reason. Another shooter commented about the smell too. It wasn't the H100 either, the Unique load also had that smell.

I also got about 700 rounds of brass at the range too!:Fire:

It's always a nice day when you bring home enough brass to pay the range fee. Haven't got any the last few times I've been there but like those days when I pick up 40 -7.62X54 All neatly tucked into the boxes or 30-30's or whatever.

Good for you!

Hi BK

I go to the Los Altos Rod & Gun Club. How about you? I see you have a regular website on reloading. I'll have to check it out! Cool...

I frequent several, but I'm partial to the ElDorado gun club.

Making your own lube can be fun and rewarding, I still dabble a bit with BP concoctions when I have time.

But with the price and quality of some bought lubes like Lars it hardly seems worth the bother now.

You know, perhaps it'll be you lube that all the shooter want to use and be known to use....it's about that tight group and ease of cleaning without leading. If it's not about exploring the possibilities where would we be today?
