Single Seven question

I have a single seven coming my way. I was wondering what the maximum oal that can be loaded for this gun. I see that the cylinder is 1.485 and the rim is .055 so it looks like 1.540 would be max. I've read some posts that gave 1.500 as max. I have a bunch of ammo loaded at 1.53 for my Blackhawk and Henry and was hoping to use them in the Single Seven. Has anyone tried loading them to 1.53?

I don't have a length listed on my data sheets for my S7 but I do know that it is shorter than my SP-101. I was greatly disappointed in that when I was first exploring the loads and guns; so much so that I almost put the S7 up for sale. But it has proven to be a very, very good shooter.
I looked at my files. I have 1.5" oal for S7. It is good for some bullets but not for others. I like to crimp in the crimp groove, can't do that with the RCBS 98 gr. SWC, but it works well with Lyman 311316.

I'm thinking mine are loaded to 1.500. I will check my reloading logs and post tomorrow. I may be loading them slightly over what the manual says is max. I loaded a lot awhile ago and am still shooting them.

I will know for sure either later today or Monday. I was loading them on the long side to get as far into the chamber of the Henry as I could and the load wound up working good in my Blackhawk as well. If I do have to load them a little shorter it probably will shoot just as well. I'll just have to load a new batch for the single seven if they are too long to cycle in it.

1.500 is about all you can go. The Black Hawk version could go longer, as can the SP101. But of the three, i think the Single Seven is the best choice. I have two-- a 5.5 and a 7.5 incher, as well as an SP101. I had a BH, but the BH is too heavy, the SP101 is too short, and the Single 7 is more nearly "just right."

I have the 8 shot Blackhawk & love it with heavy bullets. I also have the SP101 & its also a fine gun. Although I don't have a S7 I've shot a few & they are also fine six guns but as mentioned bullet length can be a problem but I can't believe the 98 gr RCBS bullet wouldn't fit although I haven't tried it. That's one of my most used bullets in my 32 magnum single six, love it with 3 grs of WST. There are several fine cast bullets out there that will work in your gun, some up to 115 grs or so, you'll just have to find the right nose to crimp length. Good luck, you will like that new gun.

I've been able to load to a max of 1.510. That's literally as far as you can go. Unfortunately if you have multiple 327 Fed firearms and want the ammo to work in all of them you have to load to Single 7 cylinder length. Otherwise you will have to load for the others separately.

Actually the RCBS is too long for the single 7207908.
The two on the right are the 311-008 and the afore mentioned 32-98 SWC. If crimped in the crimping groove, neither will fit in the cylinder of the Single 7. the others here are just fine. In particular, that stubby nosed 358-477 wannabee is very accurate. 11.8 grains of 296 is excellent with this boolit.

Well it didn't make it here today so it looks like Monday will be my first trip to the range with it. I loaded up 50 Lyman 311316, 25 RCBS 098, and 25 Saeco 325 97 grain bullets all at 1.500. The Saeco and the Rcbs are pretty close to the same weight but the Saeco is quite a bit shorter and would crimp in the groove with no problem.

In the picture above are you sure it isn't the 2 on the right that are the 311008 and 32-98?

Monday turned into Wednesday and I finally got it today. I can confirm that 1.5 to 1.51 is about as long as you can go in this gun. My longer loads won't let the cylinder turn. Mine is really tight between the cylinder and the barrel. It is right at .002. We'll see how it shoots this weekend. Looking forward to trying out some loads.

Thanks for the info. Wanting to buy a Single Seven 5.5" when I get home. I'll just seat the long bullets in Magnum and not Federal cases.
