I know some of you think a 500 hollowpoint is illogical, but I wanted one, and if you want something, it doesn't have to make sense. And Barnes makes HPs for the 500, so I can't be too crazy.

I started with the 429640 boolit and scaled it up to 500 diameter. Using those dimensions, I ordered a mold from Mountain Molds. After it arrived, I sent it off to Buckshot who HPed it for me complete with a 429640 style plug. So far I am very pleased. I have not done any shooting yet, but will soon, I hope. Checked and lubed it weighs 410 gr.

Now why would I think you were crazy. My 0.478 dia. boolit is only 25 thou smaller than yours.:-D

It is indeed a nice looking boolit and will be a lot of fun.
However, I would not shoot any very large game with it, like buf or so.
If you use it on deer size game it will be devastating so expect a lot of blood shot meat.
I would love to see a woodchuck hit with that thing!
It should be very accurate so please post some groups for us at 50 to 100 yd's.

happy7, thanks for the samples!

I sized and loaded some for my friend with the 500 SW NEF and he shot3 shots into an inch center to center at 25 yds!

Whaaa hooo!

He then shot at a clay bird at 100 yds, the cavity it left in the wet sod bank was IMPRESSIVE!

Can't wait to flatten a deer with it this year!

Well, gut, skin and butcher in one shot is what is really being expected of that round on our 110lb deer around here. :)

I need to get out and shoot these still. Thanks a lot for the report Blammer. If you get a deer, let me know the results please!

It isn't that I have been procrastinating, but I've been saving up phone books but I don't have enough yet. Maybe I will go shoot some for accuracy first and do the phone book thing later when I have enough.

If a deer gets wacked with the 500 you'll hear about it!

I also have some 350gr SWC style I want Fred to hammer a deer with.

We'll see what he chooses when a field. :)

That looks more like a shot glass than a HP to me!

totaly right. We tried it and they failed miserably. We only got about 5 inches of penetration with 440 grain hps in the 500 linebaugh on buffalo. They also failed on 300 lb sheep that we shot. Id say they would probably work fine on whitetail but i wouldnt use a hp or soft point on anything bigger. Our findings kind of showed us that as big as the .50s are allready increasing the size by making the mushroom produced a bullet that had such a big frontal area that it was like a big parachute. A handgun just doesnt produce enough velocity to overcome this. Ive also shot and penetration tested the lyman 44 devestator and believe it or not it did a whole lot better then the .50s. Even shot a buffalo with that bullet and it performed well.

Well said Lloyd. I want a hole on one side and a hole on the other.

i thought the whole point of an HP was for thin skinned game-- if I ever (hope-hope) get to hunt something larger than a whitetail -- I have no intention of using any hp LWNGC yes-- btw the bullet still looks great

No one has used this adjective yet, so I will - That is a HANDSOME Boolit!

(Denny Crane would love it, too!)

Lloyd, yeah, but ya otta see what they do to jacks and porkypines. I havent shot my 500 lineb since last buffalo season, just the 475. I want a hollow point for the 475, solid Keiths just went through an antelope a week ago. Made a pretty good thump when they hit though. Maybe need the parachute effect for more fun factor. Did you recover any of the sheep(ish) bullets?

is this bullet male or female? Is it a buck only bullet --West Tn shooter--2 eyes 2 ears a nose (nostrils optional) _ a whitetail -- the number of legs are also optional-- seriously I owuld to like to have one just like in a .41 of course
