Howdy! I purchased my younger son a Stoeger M3000 12 gauge semi-auto shotgun, and a big question came up. To wit, which/what choke should he have in this gun when shooting slugs? The shotgun came with IC, M, XFT chokes, as well as the wrench/tool for insertion and removal.
The store associate suggested IC (Improved Cylinder) as the one to be used... but, for my son's safety in shooting, as well as not harming the gun's barrel and of course optimizing his buck harvesting odds, I'm hoping to get confirmation -- or a better choice -- from one of the experts on this site.
Thanks much!

I've used chokes as tight as Modified.. but I usually use Improved Cylinder..

First off the old Foster slugs aren't going to hurt a shotgun in any choke. I doubt the news sabot slugs would either, but steel shot certainly will hurt some older shotguns. The choke to use is cylinder or improved cylinder.

Of your choices, IC.
But, you might try a rifled choke tube for possible accuracy improvement. I use one on a Rem 870.

Lon I posted about the rifle choke tubes else where with no replies. So tell me about your. How much did it improve your groups?

A BIG Thank you to all who responded to my query!!!!! Albeit I'm not the brightest bulb in the fixture re center-fire doin's, I resemble a burnt-out 1-watt bulb when it comes to scatter-gun stuff. My son resides in a shotgun-only region, and his father-in-law repo'd the gun he had been using. I'll surely advise him that IMPROVED CYLINDER is the one to use with slugs!

VERY much thanks, again!!!
