I've noticed shooting a lot of milsurp guns... not all J bullets are equal.

For instance-

I can shoot USGI pulled M2 bullets (or M2 surplus) quite a bit- and my bore only has a bit of copper fouling. Some Sweets or Outers foaming and it is good to go for cast.

On the other hand, Pakistani 303 surplus- and I'm days at cleaning out copper.

Yet Swiss GP11 with the mild steel jacketing and lube seems to leave no fouling at all, other than carbon from the powder. No excessive cleaning is needed.

Finally cupro nickel clad ammo such as Turk 8mm seems to require JB bore paste or chore boy (or anything mildly abrasive), but no excessive use of solvents to remove.

Anyone else notice this? If so with what ammo/bullets? Just something to avoid. :drinks:

I believe the swiss is nickel alloy jacket - at least on the surface. US M2 is
a thin layer of gilding metal over steel. I'd guess the paki stuff is near pure
copper. Guilding metal is used because years of experience show it produces
less metal fouling - which is what you are seeing.
