Starting loads (pistol powders) for the 311410 in 14" TC Contender? Anyone have any luck with this? Seems like a good combo to me.I thought it would be good for small game or even deer at reasonable distances. This will be for the 30-30.

If it was me I'd start with eight grains Unique and keep the ammo away from tube magazines just to make other happy . Single shot firearms aren't a problem in that respect .

I gave up trying to get that bullet to work in rifle cartridges by itself. But once I started paper patching it, I started seeing very good results at full rated speeds. The gaschecked version was pretty good but the plainbase one was not until I added the paper.

I have had excellent results with it in a 340 Savage 30-30 in the 1200-1400 fps range(1-2 moa).
