Anyone using the Lee 310 rf boolit? I want to use it in a S&W 629. I would like a hunting load, but I don't want to beat my gun to death.

I don't have any load info for this boolit. Any info would help.

Thanks,

Tom W.

I just traded Villageidjit for one, and it should be here as soon as he casts a few for himself.
GP100man has one and seems to like it...

Can't say about the 44 cal, but I shoot the Lee 310 in my 45 Colt Ruger BH. Shoots good, leaves a big hole, and hits hard.
My own load is over 9 grains Unique with a WLP primer. Nothing to be scared of in the BH, but the Smith isn't built like a tank. Maybe try 8 grains Unique. Smaller diameter case, longer boolit...should get better load density in the 44.
The Lee should have 2 cannelures, so seating/crimping depth can be adjusted. My BH shoots about the same if crimped in either groove, but loading is tight in the longer version. Watch out for this in that chamber.

Anyone using the Lee 310 rf boolit?

I am using it in my Ruger New Model Blackhawk 44 mag but so far I am not getting as good accuracy with it as I am the 240 gr. swc.
Could be I just haven't found the right load for it though.

Good shooter in my SBH but you have to push it , think 296 or H110 , tried some Blue Dot and it looks like it would be good also but I still need to work on that load .

That C429-310 RNFPGC boolit is the most accurate boolit or bullet I have shot out of my 9.5" SRH. The nose on the boolit is so big I have to set it back to the top crimp groove to get it to chamber in my SBH, RH, SRH so I lose some powder capacity.

Recoil is a little STIFF in the SBH so I did not get it worked up to best performance in that platform.

I ran outa boolits about that time and have three 44 caliber 6 bangers to get worked out, and since the 310 is a single cavity I have let it languish in the mild box!

Great boolit in front of 18.5 gr. of WC 820 (an OLD H110 speed lot of WC820). I guess I should try it in front of some of the newer lots of AA #9 speed WC820.

I shoot the LEE 310 gr without the GC over 12.5gr 2400 for 950fps at muzzle, 882fps 535ftlbs @ 100yrds SRH 7.5. A friend at work tried some and he wants me to load some for him(6" 629) to hunt with also. Mild to shoot.:drinks:

yep gotta love those 310 boolits , my Redhawk sure does, my hand doesn`t!!!

i started at 17.0 grs of imr 4227 & went as far as my wrist could stand, never over published data!!! i promise
i have a burris 1-4 x scope on it & i was able to do GOOD with em!!

wanted to add: hogdon now has data on a 325 gr boolit, it starts at 18 gr of imr 4227.

My RH likes it in front of 20 gr. WC 820 and 22 gr. of Lil'Gun or H-110 for full blitz. 14 gr. of Bluedot for midrange. Your lighter S&W may not handle these for long term use.

I've shot it in my SRH with 19 & 19.5grs of H110 & about the same with WC820. Decent accuracy but it does work on the hands! As a well known member of this board told me "It Recoils a Right Smart" He didn't lie!

I use it in a 444 Timber Carbine. It really makes the caliber perform in my opinion.

Here is a load I shot yesterday with the 310's. Still not very good but I'm working on it. Load was 20 gr. of 296 with GC. Shot from around 28 yards. According to my chronograph AV was 1461 fps. and ES was 13. Group measured 2.3 in. And yes it was a handfull to shoot. :Fire:

That Lee 310gr is my favorite with a 629. 6 1/2" barrel. I run mine on top of 20grs of H110, it is very accurate and hard hitting. I crip in top crip groove, no issues with cylinder length. I have had really good results with that same load in my 1894ss also.

Anyone shoot this boolit with 296 no gas check? My water dropped boolits have measured about 18 bhn

One of the great boolits. But you need to watch the S&W with heavy boolits. It is NOT pressure it is inertia on parts. You will see in short order if your S&W can handle them. If the cylinder unlocks and rotates or you can't open the cylinder because the pin in the center got peened, drop to 265 gr or less for boolits.
The 310 has no more pressure then a 240 gr but has more recoil.
I use 21.5 gr of 296 and a Fed 150 primer in my SBH. Not many S&W's can take the recoil.

Is that with or without gas check? I don't want to order a sizer/check crimper if I can avoid it

Mine has the check but I found I don't need them in the .475 or .500. I see no reason a PB Lee 310 can't be a PB.

I've used it without the check in my Herter .44 magnum at 1200 fps. In that use, it is just as accurate as it is with the check. YMMV.
