Any mild loads 1200-1400 fps using the Lyman 457193, lee 405 Hollow Base or 500 gr bullets ? for this new to me Ruger #1S

35 to 40 grains of IMR3031 is a nice clean burning mild load that is easy on the shoulder in My Ruger #1. You may find as I did that the Lee 459-405 HB is more accurate with no leading compared to the Lyman #457193. I cast mine from ACWW and lube the bottom two grooves with LBT "blue" then seat to just touch the rifling when chambered. Boolits need to be .459-.462 to shoot well in the Ruger barrel. 500 grain slugs have a bit too much recoil for my taste in the relatively light Ruger #1.

Don't have any 3031 at the moment. what about Imr 4198 or Unique ?

Get some 3031. You'll thank us later.

The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook lists:

- 420 gr. boolit over 21.5 grs. IMR4198 for 952 FPS and 28.5 grs. for 1267 FPS. (Trapdoor Springfield loads); or you can load up to 47 grs. for 1932 FPS in the Ruger #1 (but that one will kick!)
- 420 gr. boolit over 11.0 grs. Unique for 1006 FPS and 16.5 grs. for 1275 FPS (both Unique loads using 1/2 gr. Dacron wad over powder) (Ruger #1 loads)

Both powders should produce easy shooting loads and of course the Ruger can be safely loaded with considerably more of each powder for more BANG and recoil should you want.

You are welcome and... Oops! I thought I had deleted the last line re Ruger #1 being able to be safely loaded with more or each powder. Originally I had just listed Trapdoor Springfield loads then revised and added the top end Ruger #1 loads for each powder. So no it can't be safely loaded with more of each powder!

I agree with the Unique Load but the IMr 4198 load of 28.5 seems low for a max load ?

If you don't mind a little less velocity, I use the Lee hollow base over 14 gns of Unique for 1170'

There's a 47 gr. load of IMR4198 in the first line. That's a max for the Ruger #1 and likely way beyond what you are looking for.

How did I over look that. I was thinking of around 30gr of 4198

Have one but a lot of loads that members have tried or are using are not in it.
