Dunno about quit making, but there was a long time shortage of it around the places I look. Maybe over a year now since I last saw even a pound. Until about 2 weeks ago I went looking for some other powder & stopped in a shop about 50 miles from me & there on the shelf was 4- 1#ers of it. I asked for the owner to let me have one( it was +/- $22 IIRC) off the shelf & how much of it did he have, since I wanted to buy more after not seeing it for so long. He told me he had not had any in for over a year & he could only get one case when he got it. (IDK & he did not say why not more than a case).

Anyway, I did not buy more than one to let others have a chance to get ahold of some if they had been waiting also, but I did let Shiloh, a member here who knows the shop & owner know that they had some thru PM, so he could get some if needed.

I don't use it as much as I did in the past, but I would like to have more than just one pound on the shelf if I can get more.

It's being made. I was able to buy it during the shortage. And I can go to one of the stores now and buy it. Powder availability has been regional for years now.

I saw 3 lbs locally, $28.00 per lb. In stock in Phoenix about 5 bucks cheaper.

I've not seen any locally in about 3 years. I hope to find some soon, as I'm into my last pound.

E-Mail from Alliant

Alliant 2400.
We are still making this propellant and all the rest. We make 18 different propellants at the New River Energetics (NRE) facility. 2400 is one of those made at NRE. NRE had been running 24/7 for years and at full capacity. Batches of propellant that used to last us 6-8 months today are not lasting 6-8 weeks and in the case of 2400, I don't think the last batch lasted 4 weeks. The last batch hit the shelves in early August and by mid-September, I was again getting calls as to where this could be found again. And those calls have not stopped.
Hopefully, with the changing political climate, supplies will start to stabilize in the market.
Thanks,
Duane V.

I was thinking it was only a couple weeks ago that I found the 2400 I got, but after looking at the date of the PM I sent to Shiloh, it was 3 weeks(Oct 1) that I bought it. Fits the timeline they told you Grmps. Just a lil bit later though.

Glad to hear they are still making 2400, albeit not enough, fast enough.

Check out Third Generation Shooting Supply, shows they have 2400 in stock, 23 eight pounders at $136.89, but no 1 pound . They also have plenty of Unique, R-Dot and Bullseye. Their website is unique in that it shows how much of each powder is in stock.

I found a pound at a gun show, the fella who sold it said it's very popular in the .300 blackout and that's why it's scarce...thoughts?

Well, it's on 'the list', but it's not touted as 'THE DEAL' like, say, H4350 and the 6.5 Creedmore is. Unless my Google-Fu fails me. (?)

I have bought it from my LGS, local Bass Pro, and Powder Valley in the last four months. An 8lb jug from Powder Valley.

You are making it difficult for me to remain un-envious of you. Let alone reserving my contempt.

LoL! Wish I'd been in 'the right place at the right time'. Someday soon, I expect.

I finally saw a couple of pounds at a recent gun show. The price was terribly high so it stayed there.

What must be remembered is that ammunition manufacturers are using powder too. According to Grmps and his forwarded email from Alliant (post 7), they, CCI and Blazer (ammunition manufacturers) are in the same company. Alliant is supplying their own ammunition manufacturing lines first. We only get the extra.

I been seeing the 2400 and other powders that is made by the same company on the shelf. I had load up when I found it now i am set for some time. But like Jeffrey stated about the group that makes powder and ammo. That they will keep there plants going first before we see any of it. Also if I remember right LC is under the same group I think they use the powers also from Alliant also.If there is no new gov contract on ammo we will also have a chance to see more.

after a long drought I am able to get it at one gunshop in my area and from a supplier that frequents the gunshows here in Maine but his meager supply is fast running out. 28 bucks and change.

I have been waiting on Powder Valley to get RL17 back in stock. So, they finally get it, but my powder buying funds are low so I wait. Now it is out of stock again!

Just bought a pound of H4895 at Bass Pro. Was $41 and change out the door. An 8 lb jug from Powder Valley would run about $25/lb at your door.

No, but my LGS, who I would prefer to buy from even though they can't compete either, didn't have any, and they can't afford to put together an order from their distributor right now. Business is off since the election you know.

It's funny, it must be a regional thing. I purchased a good sized lot of it for my R&G Club back in Jan 2016 and while they have sold some here and there, of the original order, we still have about 1/3 of that order left.. It trickles out. I have not had to order any more in nearly 2 years.

I picked up an 8 pounder during the height of the shortage, about 3 years ago. Guessing I have 5+ pounds left.
If it makes you feel any better, I will not be competing with you in the purchase for at least a couple more pounds of use here.

Bass Pro is not a good place to buy powder price wise. Amen! Reason BP doesn't run out is the prices are so high it takes major need and desperation to order or buy from them. Powder & primers they are like the scalpers of the reloading world. We got your tickets, get your tickets, but it ain't gonna be cheap.

I see 2400 at gun shows, not always in stock but it shows up fairly often. Online it comes and goes but if you check the usual suspects web sites every week or so you will snag some in a fairly short time. Now getting enough of several desirable powders at same time so Hazmat is spread out to cover more pounds? That is a little tougher. Almost need to reserve that order for when you are ready to pick up a couple of 4# or 8# jugs and just toss a couple of 1# cans into the order. Sort of runs a big chunk for all at once.

Yes and it's a real shame Bass Pro bought Cabelas.

Hi...
Stopped by one of the LGS today.
2400 in 1lb containers on the shelf at $27.99 each.
Several pounds available... location South Central Pennsylvania.
Has been available pretty consistently for some time.
I didn't buy any... stocked up last year and have enough for probably 5-6 years of pretty regular shooting.

I picked up 2 pounds the other day. I seen it there, kind off didn't clue in, then pinched myself to make sure I was not dreaming. I can't wait to try it, first time I have seen it except for the pics you guys post.
Be well

When I was at the LGS last Saturday they had five pounds sitting on the shelf. Almost bought some IMR Red and Target but decided against it. I still have an unopened 8# jug of 2400 and don't know when I will get around to using it.

I use 2400 in my "standard 357 mag loads"..settled on the particular load years ago and just never changed what I do...I've always got several pounds of 2400 and when I saw it starting to dry up I contacted my normal on line suppliers and didn't get too involved in a price war situation....I just bought about 10# as I recall and tucked it away...still using it up with about 4 # left. I watch the boards and hear folks talk about the shortages and in the next breath are complaining about the prices...they find the powder but are going to "hold out" for a buck or two less a pound...then when it's all gone they yell to high heaven and call folks like me a hoarder...maybe so but I'm still loading and shooting (I don't sell anything..might give some to a buddy)...I enjoy loading...and don't consider it some kind of big money saving process...If I need 2400 or 231 or H4350 and it's available...I stock up and don't hang around waiting for the final, last little price squeeze.

Powder Valley has had a boat load of powders in many sizes.....I went with a couple of buddies and really stocked up...now we got it and can just forget it for a very long time....As always I see folks doing comparison shopping on line and complaining about a buck or two a pound...when it's all gone I'll again be called a hoarder and be crititized for having 20# of "unobtainium #55) when the store shelves are bare...it's all available right now folks.
