Was looking at the RCBS 429-240 SIL for a gas checked 240 grain. I am using the RD 265 for my heavier size gas check load. Any opinions on the 429-240? It would go in Marlins and Rugers.

My mold cast bullets way undersize... even with linotype.

The 44-240-SWC is better and the 245-SWC is a good plain base... both shoot well. You don't need gas checks unless you're running max power loads.

Look at the Lyman 429640 250 grain HP.

The RD 265 is all you need though.

Thanks Boomer, I will check out the Lyman. I have had good luck with the RD in both my Marlin 1894 and Ruger Bisley.

The RCBS mold is likely heavier than 240 grains, more like 250, but even so, 25 grains of bullet weight in .44 caliber is a pretty insignificant amount. My own choice is a 215 grain and a 265 grain. A 240 and a 300 might be a good range, but I have a .45-70 for the 300 grain and up work.

I picked up the mold and Scrounger was right , it does drop at 250. Diameter on the lot that I cast yesterday was .431-.432 using 16-1 lead to tin. I will shoot some Tuesday and see how they do.
