When put to its best uses, 2400 works exceedingly well.

real good shooting!!!

i'm finding that 2400 IS the rifle powder. esp doing straight wall cases.

Here's 2 sighters then 20 shots for score I shot today out of my M1903A1 Type II National Match 30-06;

Bullet; 30 XCB cast of #2 alloy, Hornady GC, 2500+ lube, 164 gr.
Case; LC 62 Match w/ flash hole drilled.
Primer; WLR
Powder; Alliant 2400, 20 gr.
Filler; Dacron

Velocity 1930 fps.

Shot the 2 sighters then adjusted the Lyman 48 w/ling slide and 1/4 moa adjustment left and down. From center of 20 shot cone of fire I probably went 2 click left too much. Still a 200 with 13 Xs isn't too shabby as that's about the best my old eyes can hold anymore.

Larry, I haven't messed with dacron filler yet.............how much were you using? I'm using DA62 brass with standard flashhole.

With just 20 gr Alliant 2400 in the '06 case I use 1 1/2 gr Dacron.

Question for Larry, do you drill the flashhole for better ignition, or to stop the shoulder from setting back? Do you do this for all reduced loads or just certain powders? Sorry guys for hijacking this thread

Both reasons with truly "cat's sneeze" loads. With loads such as this there is sometimes a benefit of better ignition, sometimes not. It seems to depend on the primer used more than anything. With Rem 9 1/2s and CCI 200s it appears beneficial with 2400, probably with Fed 210s also. However, with the WLRs I used, which have more brisance, there doesn't seem to be a measureable difference. The WLRs give a tudge higher velocity also which indicates quicker ignition. I just have 100 of these cases with drilled flash holes for this rifle. I use them with numerous types of cast bullet loads including 1850 fps loads with the 311299 over 4895.
