Got a new .44 tonight!

Ruger 50th Anniversary flat top.

Throats are .431", will load up some Keith's sized to that diam and see what
they do. Unfortunately, I have a funeral to attend tomorrow. A good
guy who was the treasurer of our 2nd Amendment rights group passed
on.

I may get to the range late on Saturday to see how it does.

Sorry about your associate and happy about your dimensions. When they get them right it is just so much easier.

You'll like it. Mine seems to be very accurate but the hammer spring was light so I put an xr3red on it and a Powers half cock kit.

You changed the grip frame? I was under the impression that this has
the smaller grip frame, so I assume you were going to the larger grip, which
I further assume (boy am I getting on a limb!) you wanted the SBH sized
grip. I haven't shot it enough to have an opinion on the grip size.

I put a cylinder full of 20.0 2400/ 250 Keith LSWCs thru it at the indoor range,
poor light and just a quick test. Not too bad recoil, but you sure know that
it went off - it flips up and pretty good flash indoors. I'm not sure I have shot
a .44 with 2400 indoors before. I don't remember that much flash from my
4" Mtn Gun or 329, but I shoot them outdoors, which is probably the difference.

I'm not sure I like the sharp plastic checkered grips, the seem to grab at the skin
in my palm a bit much, but this is only 6 rounds. I may try to find some smooth
walnut grips.

Bass- I'm OK with the throats. My SBH has .433 or 434, don't remember which but
it took the GB 250 Keith to be big enough to satisfy that one. It shot jacketed just
fine but didn't take to .430 boolits very well - and it was a while before I learned
enough about revolver dimensions and such to understand what to do to fix it.
I can get .431 out of most of my molds, so this should be easy. I'll be sizing some
H&G 503s tonight and loading 10 Unique and 20 2400 for testing tomorrow.

As far as my friend, we will miss him. He had a lot of health problems and was
a very devout Christian and a good man. He is in a better place and no longer
struggling. The pastor did one of the best eulogies that I have heard in a while.

Thanks for the kind words, he was definitely working to help keep KS 2nd Amendment
rights going in the correct direction.

The XR3 grip was what was on the original flattop .44's. I assumed the new ones had it too.

The xr3 that came on it is a little small for me when it comes to heavy loads and the grips seemed to bite, like you said. And I may change it to a Bisley someday.

The grips are one thing I don't like about mine. When I first got mine I shot some full power loads and for me it was quite uncomfortable after only 12 rounds.

Some folks recommend installing an Old Army mainspring for sure ignition. It's rated a few pounds heavier than the standard Blackhawk or New Vaquero mainspring.

The grips are OK for moderate loads (10 Unique/250 Keith or 9 pwrpistol/250 K)
but not so wonderful for full house. Also the back of the trigger guard smacks
my second finger occasionally with max loads.

I got two good groups with the H&G 503 at .431" with 9.0 Powerpistol,
and 8.0 Titegroup. Not spectacular but I was shooting into the setting sun
and the front sight serrations are marginal depth for that severe condition.

I like it, but I think that the maxload stuff is more fun for everyday in the
SBH. For carrying, the BH flattop will be nicer. Smaller, lighter, shorter. Same
things that mitigate against lots of max loads being fun. With 9 Pwrpistol
and 250 Keith it is nice and accurate. Trigger is nice and hammer blow seems
fine.
