Howdy fellers,

This is my first post on this forum,so here it goes!

I recently was reading a auction booklet about an upcoming gun auction, and they had a picture of a Civil War era British Enfield with a trapdoor action. This was not a Snider action as one would expect. I've never heard of this beast before, and I can't find out a thing about it. I wonder if it's in .577 rimfire like the Springfields with the 1st model Allin Conversion or in .577 Snider. If nobody here knows, where could I fine out? Thanks

I am no expert, but the United States bought great quantities of Enfield rifle muskets for use during the Civil War. It is not impossible that at least a few were converted in the Allin Conversion program , along with the great majority of Springfield rifle muskets.

I would like to know more also.

Intriguing. They had 'hybrids' back then too!!!

There were Trapdoor type actions of Italian design used to convert Enfield rfiled muskets for the Italian Navy and for South Australia. Try this site:

and this one

Thanks for the info. I compared the photos and the one in my catalog is different in appearance, though very close. I wish it was the Braendlin-Albini because I'm set up to reload .577 Snider! This helps me though. One guy on another forum said it may be a Berdan conversion. I'll keep trying.
