Got a real nice 1863 Starr 44 cal pistol today.
Serial number 25,340
It's a REAL COOL pistol.
Has cartouche's on both sides of hand grips.
Gonna have to study those!
It's in very good condition.
Nice rifling, except it has that ring about 1-2" in.
Still should shoot decent.
The only thing bad is the front sight got knocked off from a sabre, or a Minie ball, lol.
Anyone know exactly year of 25,340?
PS lots of dings on butt. I have seen a lot of CW pistol selling with dingy butts!
Any ideas?
Thanks, Terry

Of course, the dings in the butt came from hammering in nails to hang 'wanted' posters.

I know, cuz I watch western movies.

If the ring is back a ways behind the muzzle, it won't hurt shooting. It's when a ring bulge is close to the muzzle that it hurts things. I had an original Starr many years ago and they shoot well. Clean well and manage sensibly and you will get many years of enjoyment from it.

It breaks down so easy!
I hold up my 63 Remington,
Then hold up the 63 Starr,
The Starr holds real well in your hand.
I found that the majority of the Starr pistols were shipped to Cavary units.
They were the most guns manufactured for the CW.

Naah, it's from pounding coffee beans on a rock.

Here's a 7 shot group. Aiming 6 o'clock of the black dot.
The front sight got nailed by a Minnie ball! Lol
Shoots real high!
Anyway, group is KILLER!
Better than my 1858 Remington!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171003/14134fa1c666881cf70739fe588ed1b1.jpg

No, but all my greats, and lower greats were hunters, and shooters.
I have spent my last 15yrs competition shooting.
I have chilled from competition, since I have horses now. Enjoy my 4 hooved friends.
But my pistol and rifle range is 7 ft from my back door!
I play all the time, and now these old percussion's have swallowed me up!

Otherwise it would have knocked off the hammer!

Otherwise it would have knocked off the hammer!I was just joking about the minnie ball, as you stated it would have hit the hammer.
Then the shooter!!
