.308 Winchester cast bullet mold choices?

I just purchased a .308 with 1:10” twist and would like to cast for it. Ive been reading that the optimal bullet weights for this twist are 160-170gr. Which molds would you suggest I look for? I have been using Lee exclusively for all my other calibers and am pleased with the results.

I would recommend the following three molds for the .308 Winchester:

Lee C309-170-F, 30 Caliber (309 Diameter); 170 Grain Flat Nose Gas Check

Lyman #311041, 30 Caliber (309 Diameter); 173 Grain Flat Nose Gas Check - or similar NOE product: NOE 311-180-FN (311041)

RCBS Mold 308-165-SIL 308 Caliber (309 Diameter); 165 Grain Silhouette Gas Check

I have been using the Lee C309-170-F with a gas check in 30-30, 30-06 308 win. and even a 7.5 Swiss K-11 . Works just fine in all three.

Shoot paper patched cast lead bullets out of the 308 Win at jacketed velocity with good accuracy.
Got an Accurate mold for casting paper patched lead bullets. Cast a few hundred and size to .301 before paper patching. Paper patching takes a little time on the learning curve but once figured out the bullets can be patched allowed to dry over night then lubed and sized to .309.
These bullets shoot with accuracy and work well for deer hunting.

PC'd boolits from my RCBS 308-165-SIL mold finish at 174 gr w/GC. 1-1.5 MOA out to 200 yds at 1950 fps from my M700 with a 1-10 McGowan barrel. Haven't shot this load on paper at 300 yds but have no problem tagging a gallon milk jug set on the berm behind our swinger targets out there.

Well I prolly have most every .30 cal mold made and my most accurate so far has been NOEs copy of the Eagan MX2 mold.

I like the Lyman 311291,311041 and 311299 molds for .30 caliber loading.

311-291 has been accurate in every 30 cal I've tried it in. In the 308, try 26-29 grains of H-4895. Somewhere in that range you will find accuracy.

The RCBS 30-165 SIL shoots very well, but I've found the RCBS 30-180 SP provides slightly better overall accuracy, even if it is a bit heavier than your parameter. I've shot neither bullet in a long time, but I believe I sized these at .310".

Suggested moulds will depend on the intended use......what do you want it for; practice, plinking, hunting, matches, long range, etc......?

I use the Lyman 311672 which was designed for the .308 Win. Has anyone else used it and how did it work out for you?

What works for me is Lee 312-155 2R GC. I shoot paper using a Moss MVP 308 with mag feed. Pointed bullet was needed for feeding. Bullet shoots well to 100 yd for me with 4198 (1600fps) and WC820 (1700fps).

I've loaded that same Lee 312-155 with an unrecalled load of 2400 and in the first 20 rounds ever fired from a Ruger Scout rifle and 2x7 X scout scope was shooting a .75" group from a field expedient rest. Not very fast and not a boolit to hunt with, but still a very satisfying round to shoot. Now I need to see what the 165 grain Ranch Dog TL flat point boolit will do at 18-1900 fps. Should be good enough for the small whitetail deer here in Georgia. GF
