Does anyone know if these firearms were made with Ballard style rifling or micro-groove or both types?
Any help would be appreciated
THANK IN ADVANCE

Pretty sure it was Ballard rifling

.
AFAIK, Microgroove barrels are so roll marked on the side, while Ballard rifled barrel's are not so marked..

I don't own a Cowboy in .38-55, but I own several in other calibers, and they're all Ballard type rifling.
Hope this helps.

I once owned a 1893 TD in 38-55 and it had regular rifling ! It was a good one!

I am probably wrong, but I thought all cb's were ballard. It is pretty easy to look in the muzzle and see though, if you are looking at it in person.

Thanks for the replies
Turns out the rifle I looked at turned out to be manufactured in 2003 according to serial # and has Ballard rifling and uncheckered stocks
Was able to get it at a great price (no box and typical safe bumps and bruises)
Of course the uncontrollable tinkerer in me wouldn't allow me to shoot it until I did a complete action "slicking up" and replace the cross bolt safety with a delete.
One thing I found that I was surprised at is there was a small plastic shim between the butt stock and lower tang to bring surfaces flush (metal to wood) First time I've seen that on a production rifle. This one is JM marked
Hoping I get this to shoot as well as other owners have reported
Now to get casting and reloading
