I was wondering if you pan lube before or after putting on gas checks

I pan lube after gas checking. The gap between the gas check and first driving band acts like a lube groove.

I do it this way too. Easy handling unlubed bullets...

I use home made Lee type push thru sizers. I pan lube, push the gas check on, then size.

If nothing else, the base of the bullet for a gas check design is narrow and might have a sprue bump. By seating the gas check square on the bullet base, it adds a stable base to set the bullet in the pan. To omit the checks before lube is applied in the pan it to increase the level of difficulty.

On the few occasions I use gas checks I use a Lyman 450 to simultaneously install the check and lube. I just use pan lubing for bullets I will shoot as cast (primarily for BP) or will size after lubing. You gotta do what works in your own specific situation.

+1 for the check and size , then lube crowd. Less mess and as stated holds little more lube in between the check and bottom drive band.- CASTER

I coat them with a light coat of 45-45-10, apply checks in push-through sizer, then pan lube as the final stage.
