Has anyone had any experience with loading 160 gn cast using Win 748?

I think the OP forgot a tiny bit:wink: of important information!

Hmmm. I'd guess a 30 caliber rifle...

The OP hasn't signed-in since yesterday. Perhaps later today we'll get some more information.

Perhaps he means any rifle. I have but not with 160 gr (303 Brit). I was testing it with paper patch, hoping to eliminate boolit base peening. It worked. Accuracy seemed to be promising initially but I haven't followed up. Too light a load doesn't burn well so velocities might be on the high side for a lighter cast boolit (I used 194 gr) by the point the powder charge is sufficient to burn properly. I was also worried about too small a powder charge in the Brit case so I used a filler (wheat germ). Proceed with caution!

I use it with 150 and 165 gr. bullets in a .308W but have never used it with cast.

I've shot a lot of 311-291 and 311-041 boolits in 30-30's with 748.

Yup--what Glen said, same info here.

ETA--I back the data off about 10%-15% of what is listed for jacketed bullets of similar weight, though there is little reason to do so other than to moderate velocities a bit. A #311041 cast as a Bruce B Softpoint did some impressive work on a formerly VERY healthy coyote for me in the recent past. It started out at 1800 FPS over 28.0 grains of WW-748 (IIRC) and went DRT at 115 yards. I have used this weight with #311291 and c. 2008 added #311041 to the tool assortment. On paper, I can't choose a favorite between them. Cast as BBSPs, I doubt that it matters in the game fields. Place them right, and you'll be busy with venison prep in short order.

Works just fine in a NEF 30/30 with a GC 165 grain

Used 748 in full loads for 30-30 and 30-40 and 7.5 Swiss. With a scoped K31 I shot my best group with cast 5 at 100 yards under an inch. If you mean one of those I have data.
