How accurate can you guy's get your group's? I've got the 30-06 with Red Dot down under 1 1/2" at 50 yds, the 308 with Varget does about as well. I'm gonna get out with the 308 this year for deer and don't plan on shooting more than 100-125 yds with that accuracy! I think it has enough to go to 150yds but just not sure. I insist on a lot more from rifle's shooting jacketed.

Oh I also weigh the bullet's and they come out between 183.0 and 183.4. I did those a bit ago and they were bullet's i'd alresdy put gas check's on. Feeling I should have weighted them first. Gonna stick most of them back in the pot to re-cast, lose the gas check!

I get clover leafes at 50 yards and about an inch at 100. Thats with my .270 win @ 2100 fps. Still dialing in loads for my 6.5 mm

I have seen a huge difference between 50 and 100 in the pistol cartridges. I struggled to find a load for my 308 MX, finally found one I can live with,204666 I was beginning to think it wasn't going to happen.

This is the 311466 over 13.0 gr of Red Dot at 50 yards fired from a 2005 Remington 700 .308 Winchester, 1-10 twist factory barrel. Bullets were not weight sorted.

These are the 311466 on left and RCBS 30-150-SP on right. I have groups with both these bullets using Unique that are at ~1750 fps that are very good, I just don't have pics at the moment. I am out of town, but can get pics later this week.

Here is the Lyman 314299 sized 0.311" from same rifle as above.

Here is the Accurate 31-160G from a 2014 Remington 700 action with a 1-12 twist Krieger barrel at 25 and 100 yards. Bullets were not weight sorted. Action has not been "blueprinted". The barreled action wears a McMillan M40 stock that is not glass bedded, but merely bolted on. Note the chronograph data on the target.

With the same boolit as OBD, my 308 gets to about .8" at 100 yards when my eyes are having a good day. With the Lee 160 gr RNGC, the groups stay at just a little over 1". My accuracy load is 19.6 gr of 2400 but RE-7 is almost as good with both giving an MV of just over 1800. Every rifle barrel has a personality and the journey is to discover it. My terminal ballistics test in soaked compress phone book showed that you could go a couple hundred FPS slower and still have a fine deer hunting tool out to 150 yards.

It was actually an accident. I was trying for around 1850 fps. With 4198 i got decent accuracy seated by the lands but couldnt get over 1650 fps and any atempt for faster it would quickly open. Drop was to much for me to compensate at 200 yards. So i got reloader 7 and backed it off the lands .002 inches. Worked up and was quite surprised. I also think using the gas check seating tool helped alot as well as seating off the lands to reduce chamber pressure. I never went back and tried the 4198 backed off the lands, but its on the list. Still playing paper patching, just got promising results with a paper the gun likes. Now its time to push the envelope. Just experment and change one thing at a time. I am not the well versed, i just read and experiment. The alloy is nothing spcial either. The boolits have a BHN of 15.

In both .357mag single shot rifle and .444marlin handi rifles I got cloverleaf's at 25 and 50 yards sighting in. In both cases at 100 yards I had 2 touching and pulled the third half an inch up and left.

I don't hunt anymore so that was good enough for me. I know either will do the job at need. Both were shooting cast and Red Dot powder. 4.6 gr under a 158 gr round nose Lee for the .357mag. 13 grains under the lee 310 gr .430 in the .444marlin. There are several sweet spots betweeen 6 and 13 grains. Essentially a moderate .44mag load in long .444 brass, easy on the pocketbook and the shoulder.

Sometimes a fella needs to fiddle with the fine points. Target below is a run of 4 pair of loads that are the same for each pair except the alloy, and the difference in hardness is small. One is 30:1 and the subsequent is labeled "1.25" which is my reference point relative to the infamous Lyman #2. The 1.25 falls at 9 BHN, or very close to it. Conventional wisdom has it that 30:1 is BHN 8 but my hardness testing says it's a wee bit softer, falling in the 7 BHN range. Well, whatever it is, it is a bit softer and the results are on the target. 50 yards, double bag rest.

Group size is depicted on each target, apologies for the fine print. The bull is 2" in diameter and the eye/25 ring is 1/4" diameter. All are 5 shot groups.

My best group out of my Ruger American 450 bushmaster was 1.190" at a 100 yards with the wide meplate Lee 300fn boolit crimped at .474" loaded at 2.035" using 35.5g of h110. ACCOWW GC PC with a BH of 13.4. Only cast boolit and rifle I've tested so far. I Did one test after out my 77/44 at a hundred yards with a lower magnification optic and averaged about 2.5" with Lee 310.

204697

Same load with WQCOWW boolit grouped 1.25" at a 100 yards a week earlier...

204698

I plan on casting up some 50/50 with 2% pewter and trying it next.
