Whats a good price for Linotype....? $1 a lb ? or more?

Also is a person better to use straight lino for rifle bullets (for a 30-30) or ww w/some tin solder added?

thank you

Prices fluxuate, but here a buck a pound is abour right at present. As to 30-30, save yourself a few bucks by mixing half Lino to half straight lead, and toss in some tin, and you will find it quite satisfactory I believe.

I think Lino is a bit hard for And expensive for plinking. I use a Contender hand gun in 30-30 caliber. I use a Lyman #2 alloy for targets and a softer Wheel weight alloy for hunting. A few years ago I bought almost 800 pounds of linotype from a print shop that closed up. It cost me dearly, I paid the guy 75 dollars American to haul it away. Haven't used it all up yet.

Actually you shouldn't need to add any tin when the alloy is 50% lino, has plenty of tin already. Pure lead and lino at 50/50 should put you in the range of 2.5% tin. Same with WW which would only contain about .5% tin and cut 50/50 you'd still be about 2.75% tin. Most lino unless new would have a bit of its tin gone simply by its previous use but you should still be around 2%. That should do ya.

Since you already have WW why not save the lino for use with any pure lead you might get and you need to add both antimony and tin? You can quench your WW to get easily hard enough for the 30-30 or even use it air cooled.

Water drop your WWs and save your Linotype for another day.
