How many times have you taken the boat tour, Lloyd?

I have only been on it once myself and that was quite some time ago.

That reminded me of the Thousand Islands area up by Alex Bay in Northern New York, just where the St. Lawrence Seaway started. Very beautiful area than many nearby residents (we were living just North of Watertown at the time) had never seen.:-D

That's beautiful, just the way I'd have wanted it if I'd been the builder, if Id thought of it. Seriously, "nice" doesn't do it justice. Wonder what kind of fish lurk there? DALE

Born and raised there (here). To me it is the most beautiful spot in the USA....... I also love Maine and the mountains in Montana.......... but the St. Lawrence is THE river.

Nice pics Lloyd!

Here are a couple snap shots from a week or two ago during my daily ventures. It was a very wet day.

New River - near Hawks Nest:

Note: the 3rd picture down is taken from the rock that you can see in the bottom right lower corner of the TOP two pictures. One step (its not fenced) and you may hit ground in a couple minutes if you make it thru the tree tops.

Hey! Them's MY stomping grounds. Did a lot of courting at Kanawha Falls. There's a little Inn just behind that big brick building. I don't know how it is now, but it used to be a great place to eat. I lived at the mouth of the New River for a few years. One of my forbearers married Dan'l Boon's daughter after they went through there, and I've camped in the cave where Boon spent the winter hiding from the indians. Wasn't far from my home when I was a kid, but highway construction destroyed it a few years back. Spent a lot of time sleeping on those darn house-sized bolders that the New River uses for banks. They don't get any softer with the next fishing trip either! Still got relatives all over the place. One of them is on death row for murder (last I heard), and another one is our congressman. I'm probably somewhere in between. (BG) Where are you, Charleston, or maybe Bluefield?

I spent a lot of time on the New as well. Mostly between Thurmond and Fayetteville. Many nights spent camped on the river's edge a bit upstream of the old Kaymore (sp?) mine. It sure is a pretty place down in the canyon. Not always so nice up over the rim.

never actually took the tour boat. I spent many hours out there on my own boat though. For you fisherman theres excellent lake trout fishing along with salmon whitefish and if you go into the bays theres some pretty good perch and pike fishing too.

[grin] I think the name of the Motel/Restaurant is Glen Ferris Inn,
it still looks nice, probably very nice on the inside. I was on their parking lot taking more pictures of the river and falls that same day.

I pass thru there maybe once a month or so on the average. As much as I go through there I never seem to have or take the time to enjoy it a little more. I also took some pics of that ole bus/camp that rests on the big rock in the middle of the river but it was raining and it didnt take well.

As a very young lad I remember my parents used to take us camping at that campground just up river. In fact I took my son on a weekend camping/fishing trip and stayed over there just last summer.

Me, I live near Huntington. I work in the communications biz and travel all over the state (daily) as a field engr.

Years ago I used to travel/work throughout your current state as I then lived between cincy and lex.

Nice pix, those rocks sure would make lake access difficult !

I used to go thru Gauley Bridge area every weekend traveling to VA from
Charleston to help my Dad build his house. That was in 77 and 78, so
thirty years ago. Nice then, still looks nice. I love to run the road up from
Gauley Bridge to Hawk's Nest in a good sports car when there isn't
any traffic. . . . . . . course, if you make a serious mistake - it'd be your
last one.

Glen Ferris! Dang! I couldn't remember the name for anything. Creeping senility I guess. And we've got friends that live about half a mile above there, who came over for a visit last week.

Small world, eh?

God Bless,

A few of my buddies are up there right now, at Pictured Rocks. I was supposed to go, we were all going to Kayak them. I didnt go because my girlfriend didnt get the right days off this week to go, so we took advatage of the days she did get off and went on a tour of some small lakes she has never been to.

My girlfriend trying to catch up with me.

Spent sometime fishing, she actually caught this one but she doesnt like to touch fish, or bait her own hook, so I was elected to take fish off the line and put bait on.

This is a pic of the lake at the camp ground we stayed at.

Pictured Rocks are probably going to be next summer for me now. But I will make it up there and Kayak them one day.

beautiful pictures. We sure live in a beautiful area. Only problem i see with your pictures is your boat needs a much larger motor!!!!!!!!!

Looks like a fun time. Do you jig out of your kayak, cast, troll or just bounce it off the bottom? Gianni

Depends what we are after, for bass and pike I ussally cast and troll, with spinners and Berklys power bait. If the pan fish are around we jig with crappie jigs or leadheads and a small worm. Danielle ussally just casts and lets the Berklys hit the bottom and brings it in slow. I guess you could say I am a high speed fisherman, she stays in one general area I work the edges of the whole lake in search of bass.

The motor on my boat might not be all that big but it works and it doesnt burn gas to get me around the lake....besides it keeps your upper body in shape.
