View Full Version : What C&B or Musket shoots a 440 ball?

I bought a small sporting goods store reloading hardware, moulds and dies, i have at least 2 Lyman s.c. 440 ball moulds, and i would like to know if anyone can tell what shoots a 440 ball?
I will be great full for any help?

Greg, there are quite a few of the commercial ML's that use them.

most likely a 45 cal would use the .440 a 50 cal would usaly use .490-.495

Greg, What fishhawk said. It is undersized to make room for the patch and then it ill be tight. Some like a little bigger ball and a thinner patch like .445 or so but I think the most popular in the 45 is the .440.

cast em from pure lead patched with pillow ticking wet with spit on top of 60.0 grs FF black powder start the ball with a ball starter then with a sharp knife cut the patch even with the muzzle seat it well with the ramrod cap it and fire I love my 45 cal Hawkens muzzle loader kills deer too
