I am lusting for the Ballisti Cast #936 mold for my 32 mag and others 32/20. Has anyone got some experience with this mold? Or is the RCBS 98 grain swc good enough. I read the article in Cast Pics, very good, just like the looks of the 936.
Thank you Fe

While I have not shot the #936, I will say the RCBS 98 SWC is waaaaay beyond "good enough". I have gotten a bunch of 1/2" 50 yd. groups (5 shots), out of my Marlin lever 32-20 with the RCBS boolit. Shoots way beyond reason out of my old S&W .32 also.

I'm not hot on the look of the SWC in a .32 either, but the performance is too hard to ignore for me. You will have fun with a 32-20 either way.:)

Hi,
It looks like a great bullet. Like a Keith SWC but in .32. Quite a bit like the group buy on here a year or so ago. (Supposed to be repeated but hasn't been so far.) I don't load .32 H&R but I have a bunch of 32/20's, rifle and pistol. Only drawback I see for 32/20 might be in rifles with tubular or clip magaines, where the SWC shoulder might hang up. But you would have to try it to know for sure. I don't see any drawbacks for pistols right off the bat. Price on a Ballisti-Cast mould is the biggest issue.
As to the others, the RCBS 98gr SWC is outstanding. I use lots of them. Only thing is it only comes in a two cavity.
Lyman's 3118 is the standard for many years. (I don't have their new number but it is currently made) 115-118 grains, no crimp groove. Mirrors the original Winchester mould I have, although the Winch. may have a slight bevel base. Also Lyman's 311316, same thing but gas check and crimp groove. Or Lyman 311419, same basic profile but 85 grains and a gas check. Also, in the past, all these were also available as hollow points. Great for hunting but really slows the casting down.
Good Luck.

Second that on the Lyman 311008 PB and 311316 GC. I have both and they serve me well. 311008 to approx 1300fps and 311316 to 1900fps.

Here's one more vote for 311008 & 311316.

HOWEVER.............if I was buying moulds NOW I would go for something that produced .315 'as cast' so I could size to .314 for my .32-20. Both my Lymans throw at .3115-3125.

Depending on the gun, Jeff has a good point. I have a Win '92 that measusred just over .311 when I slugged the barrel (original Winchester, not a repro). But a S&W 1905 Hand Ejector has throats that measure .314.
Bad thing is that most moulds for .32/20 don't measure that large in my experience. Perhaps those for .32 S&W Long do. Lyman lists those as .313 rather than .311. Another point is that if you go too large, you could have trouble chambering the round. Depends on the guns chamber. If you don't cast them too hard, they should expand to fill the throat or bore.

Thanks for the help, I already have the two Saeco 120 grain molds and a 3118 four cavity. Also the Saeco 95 grain semiwadcutter which shoots at close range but not long. I am not opposed to spending the money on a Ballisti Cast mold, I object to spending money on a shooting product that is made by people who do not shoot.
