One of my hunting and fishing buddies in going to Australia (Sydney). Can he buy a rifles in Australia and transport or ship it to me in California?

I don't know law but I'm assuming with enough money, yes you can.is it worth it? Probably not

I was thinking that a importer/exporter of weapons might be able to do it. But for a individual very likely not. Australia has really ramped up their gun restrictions to being really onerous.

^^^ so bloody true.A 32-20 win92 was shipped to canada,via a shipping agent.Cost? $500 aussie dollars.
You made need a shooters licence to buy. Check out,

Unless its changed the usa end.....you will need the help of a dealer.
Most dealers here can help you out .........if not they usually know a dealer that will do it for you.
In Australia.
You can do it as joe blow but the red tape needs to be appeased both ends I believe.
Its not that hard as some make out but it will take time and proper procedures.

I actually imported a Martini from New Zealand which was a nice rifle for $AU 220 but it cost another $AU 875 for all the rotten permits!

I made contact with an exporter in Australia. He said $200.00 AUS export permit and $200.00 AUS shipping to me in North California. I'd need to find some expensive rifles to make it worth while.
