Newbie to the forum, here. If I'm violating any protocols, my apologies in advance.

I recently came into possession of a beautiful T/C Hawken .54 Plains rifle only to be made rudely aware that mold blocks for the maxi-ball in any weight, especially the 430 gr. which is what I'd prefer, are almost non-existent.

I'm looking for a .54 maxi-ball mold, preferably the T/C 430 gr. Yeah, I know, me and 17,000 other guys.

If any one has one they'd be willing to sell, or has something similar, please let me know. If you know of a source, also please let me know.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Accurate Molds can easily make most anything you'd want. I've had Tom make me 3 different cap n ball pistol bullet designs.

They currently have this one listed as well:

Welcome to the forum. If anybody can find you a mould it will be here! Don't shoot muzzy's myself but people here are the most knowledgeable you will find. I don't post alot because I can find a bunch of info in the archives to solve most questions I have. Your post looked great to me and will likely get you a answer in short order. Disclaimer, this sight may cause late night browsing and loss of time syndrome.

Haven't used it in .54, but have a whole lot in .50. You want a design that loads easy, is accurate and hits hard, this is what you want.

If you haven't got one yet I may be able to help. My son rebarreled from 54 to 50 cal and may still have the mold. Send me a pm if interested.

X2 on the lyman slug, shoots great in my .54 TC Hawken barrel, I use a veg fiber wad underneath it, very, very accurate.

Welcome aboard. A few sources:

As already mentioned, Accurate Molds, also NOE Molds. Two fine sources for what you want.

Dont be afraid to try a 530 ball and some ticking, nope it wont work with 120 grains of wompum stompum but 70 grains of ffg and a 530 ball will shoot through a deer and not make your sholder sore or crack your stock where the bolt goes through.
Most shooting is punching holes in paper or knocking a can over. Not much lead or powder required
BTW welcome to the forum

Mac,I bought a box of moulds a while ago and have 2 54 T/C maxis. One is black alum. w blued sprue cutter, looks unused w small rust on cutter. .54 cal on sprue cutter and 789 on blocks Don't know weight as labels on box are illegible. Bullet length .090. $32 ppd. Another, gold, 54 M and 1467 on blocks. Someone has added a washer to sprue cutter and cutter does not lie flat on blocks. Bullet in it may need to be melted out. $17 ppd. Regards, Jaeger.

Which is exactly why I gave my Maxi mold away years ago . Round ball usually shoots better anyway .

TC made .54 rifle but never a Plains rifle. Just to correct what you want is for their Hawken or Renegade.

They are indeed Hen's Teeth.

Occasionally you get lucky and stumble across new in-box molds for a ridiculously low 10 bucks each...

Still have yet to build my .54 hunting rifle, but I'll have the mold for when it happens.
