I was helping a older friend of mine this weekend and he gave me this rifle to try and figure out what it is. I think it some kind of mauser but not sure the only markings on the gun are the numbers on the barrell. If some other pics could help let me know I can post more.

Jap Type I. Built for Japan by Italy hence the Carcano esque bolt. Bore is probably of Carcano dimensions too, i.e. needs a .267+ slug.

Should be chambered in 6.5X50.5 Jap.

Darn! If your profile didn't show your location in "Western Washington", I'd swear that rifle to be one that sold last spring on an estate auction not too far from here.

The planets and stars must be aligned just right.........just bought one of these for a friend that collects "furin rifles", had the original sling and bayonet also had kanji(jap writting) on the sling and bayonet naming the ship it came from.
IIRC these were jap naval forces weapons and is fairly rare for the jap weapon collector(s):-D
Good find :drinks:SIZE]

In that condition for a Jap rifle and especially an I, that is a rare rifle and well worth having.
