I heard the other day that one of my sisters and her husband, who live near the Saugerties / Kingston area of New York were riding on their motorcycle and had an encounter with a bear. I was told there were a few broken ribs passed around and road rash, with a night or two in the hospital. They own Mother Earths health food stores in that region. I bet they watch where they ride a bit closer now!

Tom, That was in the local paper, "The Daily Freeman" the other day. Hope both are OK (as reported). Btw, the accident on Sawkill Rd. happened not far from where I live.

I graduated Saugerties high in 71. Dad had a house on Churchland Lane that we lived in the last two years I was in school. I used to fish for trout somewhere up there, or else in the esophus Creek along 9w. I'll see if I can look up the Freeman and read the article. If not, can you post a link?

Edit... I looked it up. Nothing to indicate anything except it was a woman. She called my sister in Gulf Breeze, Florida, who texted me about it.

Glad no major injuries! Hitting an animal on a bike is often deadly to the rider.

When I worked 4-mids at the casino I was driving home at 2am most nights. Right through a deer crossing highway. In the course of 6 years I hit over 12 deer(ate well anyway!) with my 4wd Ford van that I had added a huge tube bumper to. Deer got pushed down and under. Not a fun thing at 2am and I saw many a wrecked car and 2 bike/deer collisions. I had one buck charge the side of my van, hooked his horns into the side mirror bracket. Snapped his neck then ripped the mirror off the van. That one was a lot of good meat! No road rash or blood spots from bruising from going under the van and bouncing off the rear axle...

Not mine or maybe mine before I bought it(identical) and before I added the front bumper to deal with deer. I ran 31 inch mud tires and used it as a camper. I used it to crawl into good fishing spots along the river. Surprised the heck out a a jeep bunch when I came down a trail they said I could never make it down.

Tom, Glad your sister is ok. My bike days are long over ( I think). Many close calls with animals and drivers that are animals.
I wonder if they will charge the bear with leaving the scene ?

My co- worker was broad sided by a deer in his new Altima at 4:30am, set off side air bags and did door and fender damage. He said the air bag boom was unbelievable and almost caused him to wreak. This deer season he's hunting for any deer with white paint on it !
