GP-100 Value...

I’m presently working on selling for an estate that I am the executor…

There is a 6” GP-100 (357 Magnum) that is nearly in mint condition—only about 2 boxed of ammo put down the barrel…

The catalog with it is dated 2003, but I don’t know when the handgun was made for sure…

I have looked on Gun Broker and I am a bit surprised as to what they are asking for them. I’ve seen them for up to $595, but most starting in the mid-400’s. I didn’t think it would be worth that amount…

What might a good value be on this handgun? Or maybe another Internet source to get some ideal of a fair price…

I paid $450.00 for mine a couple years ago. It was used.

I bought a 6" half lug for $400 a couple years ago. If your is a half lug too (extractor rod shroud extends half way to the muzzle) they are "desirable" and worth a little more.

I just got a new one, 6" blue with full lug , for around $525.00 as I recall.
I would think $450 to $500 would be top dollar

With gunbrokers.......................there is often huge differences between asking prices and selling prices. Need to search completed auctions and find auctions where the item sold for accurate up to date info.

Price also will depend on if it is a face to face (no paper work), sold on consignment, via gunbroker (shipping) or, to a shop (50%) ...

It will be a face to face, but the handgun will go to a local gunshop for a background check on the purchaser...

Also stainless with the original style rubber grips with wood inserts is desirable. I paid about $550 for my six inch stainless with wood inserts grips last year. It is a no mim parts gun.

Hmmmm…

The serial number on the handgun starts with 171-xxxxx…

But the chart indicates the beginning number is 171-33130. My handgun has a number less than that…

Maybe I am reading this wrong?...

I don’t think it was made in 1989, but maybe so. It was purchased new…

The Ruger website is often mistaken,,,, mis-understood,, and not easy to figure out.
According to my RENE guide,, the GP-100 was started in 1986 with the serial numbers starting at 170-00001. A 171-33130 STARTED in 1989. In 1988 the serial number RANGE is 170-40819 to 171-33129.

As to value,,, as noted,, check GB in the advanced search function,,, completed auctions,, and see what similar models to the one you have actually sold for. That will give you a ballpark of value. If your gun has any "special" features,,, then it can make a difference in value.

They can be had new for about $600. Used depends on many factors. 5 years ago $350 to $400 was an average price. I haven't seen a used one in decent condition for under $450 in at least 2 years. $500 is probably a fair price maybe even $550. Any higher and new is a better route to go.

O.K. The handgun is older than I thought it was. When placed in the original box--It looks new!!!...

I guess I have some idea as to what it might be worth. At least I know it is worth probably more than $300 but maybe less than $500...

I'll hope for a number closer to $500, but someplace in between might be acceptable...

How can I tell if it has MIM?...

The Ruger GP-100...

I got a phone call from a friend last week.

He asked me about the GP-100, that I bought 13 months ago from the local gunshow (a minty used 4" SS 357M that I paid $450 for, and I thought that was a great deal).

He started to tell me, that the LGS had a Blued GP-100 marked $375 and he offered $350 and got it for that. I assumed that was a used gun??? but he also claims that LGS buys large quantity of all Rugers and undercuts the competition...implying he bought a new gun, I was too flustered to ask him to verify that it was new...but I will next time I talk to him.

The Back story, Before I bought the Used 4" at the 2016 gunshow, I had been looking for a deal on a nice, minty GP-100 for a few years ...and everything I seen was priced over $500 and near $600 (new or used)...Most New guns were $599. I just can't believe the local LGS has new GP-100 guns for under $400.

Update...

I bought the GP-100 at the auction and I got it for $315.00...

I am pleased and I think I got a more than fair price...

It shoots well, but then I have reloaded for that particular handgun in the past--It was my Dad's. Mom sold everything in her house at an auction. No giving anything to the kids--buy and buy alike I guess it is called...
