Picked up one of these at a decent price. Mechanically in good shape except maybe the firing pin. More about that later. It closes and turns fairly well on 38 s&w brass so I loaded some with a lee 358-158 tumble lube boolit and 2.2 bullseye. Decent recoil but shoots almost 2 ft high at 15 yards.

On the firing pin, about 2 rounds each cylinder don't go bang the first time. The pin may be blunted a little or the brass is dragging a little slowing down the indexing. Anyway, don't plan on shooting it a lot but I would like to get poa.

Just sharing.[emoji12]

Yeah, I didn't buy it for the finish. I may have some time tomorrow to try a few more rounds. .

A much lighter boolit might get you closer. LEE's 95 RF comes to mind, my mold just squeaks out .358"

The trigger pull is really hard on them. The 9mm rim is real close to the SW 38. They are not a target pistol. Now the Namba auto Type 14 is a accurate gun. I am willing to bet you will have a oversize bore on yours. And they do shot high. They are more a piece of history anymore that you shot every once in a while. Only if the guns could talk and the story they could tell you about their history. My dad fought the Japs for four years. He brought home two sword and a 7.7 rifle. He told me he never seen any Jap pistol. He told me that GI were taught that Jap guns were junk. The prize was a Jap sword the GI had high respect for them.

Neat gun. I didn't realize they were that easy to shoot.

Right, all I'm looking for is to have 50 or so rounds on hand to show off once in a blue moon. I did try red dot this morning with a 125 gr and my 158 gr boolit. I went down to 3gr red dot on the 158 with good results. See pic at 15 yards. I will have to do something about the firing pin. I have tac welded on the tip of a mauser pin before but nothing this small. Took me three spins around to get 5 to go off. Accuracy could be improved.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170831/a8d526a19c498b598ba6d7456de9347d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170831/f4c57ba2abf324b24235075bd3b6f4df.jpg

Neat gun. I didn't realize they were that easy to shoot.I got lucky that mine closes on standard 38 s&w brass. Some are too tight for the thicker lip. I do have to crimp fairly aggressively to get the 358 cast to chamber.

Could the hammer spring be old and weak like me...

I may have solved it. The problem wasn't consistent and changed when I opened and closed the frame. There is the slightest amount of play in the latch and if the top strap has any gap at all from the frame, the hammer rubs on a small lip and keeps it from driving down. I noticed this while watching the mechanism with side plate off. I tried 6 rounds while making sure the top strap was down and all fired. I believe the latch is solid, I just need to get that tiny play out.

I own a pair of those guns.
My Dad brought back one,,, that has a dent in the frame/barrel junction from a bullet. Functional,,, but just a family heirloom. They have an interesting design,, in that the side plate is on a hinge,, and is folded open. I bought a cheap one several years ago. Why? Well, my family heirloom one had a main spring that broke. It's a leaf type, and a "weak link" in the design. I used the purchased gun to provide parts for mine.
Now,,, that gun is a japanese 9mm. It's an oddball,, so I'd use a smaller bullet to get it to chamber. Do a search,, and you can get the specs of the ammo.
Oh, my dad also brought back a pair of swords,, a 7.7 rifle, and several ceremonial daggers,,, as well as several hand made Filipino "bush" knives. I'm now the family caretaker of these prizes.
