Making a wood cylinder

Has anyone made one?????
Kind of like a barrel, but with straight sides.
I have a bunch of 1x3 left over from pistol frame I make.
I've made a few table tops, and a box .
I was thinking of what else I could do with them, and thought a round container would be neat.
16" outside diameter would seem a good size.
Question I have is how do I determine what angle to cut the connecting surfaces?????
Don't want gaps on the outside.

Determine how many sides you want and then find the measurement of each interior angle. Then you divide that angle in half to make your cuts.

This site will tell you how to calculate the angles for regular (all sides the same length) polygons.

Another little trick is to make it out of card board first to make sure the widths are right. Its kind of fun as the angles need to be right and the width also for it to come out right. Make it like the old barrels with a couple brass bands around it holding it together. Those the staves were cut and bent then the bands drove on when the wood swelled they were water tight.

20 staves 2.5" wide with a 9 degree bevel on each edge will give you a diameter about 15.915"
