243 Win to 358 Win

I have tons of .234 on hand and I am planning to attempt to form it to .358 Win. Should I do it in mutiple steps or just lube it up good and go for it. Maybe give it a good anneal afterwards?

If you have .308 dies, it would probably be beneficial to start with those.
I've gone from .308 to .358 without annealing, but in your case, it would probably be beneficial.
Also, you may wind up with some pretty thin necks. Might pay to reform and check a small batch before doing too many.

Maybe you could find someone to trade some .243 to for .308 if the necks proove thin?

I side with Hannibal, starting with 308 will give a starting thicker neck. 308 is as easy to come by as 243........... maybe easier. But if you go with 308, use commercial brass.

Can I ask why? I use LC 7.62x51 brass for all my conversions. No issues w/ forming. And the brass lasts for more firings than commercial.

If I were the OP I would sell or trade the brass he has for 308 or 358 brass. You can convert 243. But as stated above you run the risk of a thin neck. I would do it in two steps. Less chance of losing brass this way. And it won't add much extra time.

Starline is making 358 brass if you wanted to buy new brass at a reasonable price.

dragon813gt, i always thought the neck area in commercial brass was always softer and stretches easier than military. I started a small project of reforming mil.223(5.56) into 222 rem. they creased more than commercial 223 brass.

but I am in full agreement with the idea of using the 308 brass to reform as opposed to the 243.

Fwiw, .308 government brass is CHEAP. .243 is NOT (at least around here). - My suggestion SELL your .243 & get LC brass for .308.

Around SA, you can get LOTS of 5.56NATO, 7.62NATO & .30-06 for free or nearly free. = About 6 weeks ago, I was GIVEN > 500 once-fired .30-06 LC cases (to reform to 9.3x62mm) & was told (by a TGT forum member) when I need more to convert to, " - - - just call & I'll meet you someplace, as I have a lot of them."
The same shooter has gallon bags full of 5.56MM & 7.62NATO, too.
(Fwiw, 9.3x62 Mauser brass is anything BUT cheap, if you don't form your own from .30-06 or .35 Whelen.)

I use LC NM Brass for my 358. 243 brass is put aside for my 25-308.

I've been using WCC 69 for years one pass and got. I do have about 3 boxes of 358 Win head stamped, but like using military as if I lose it no big deal.
