Hello; I would like advice on the "does and don'ts" of glass bedding two old Mauser rifles, twenty-nine inch barrels with all hardware. Have glassed several rifles all with sporter stocks, but never had the need to bed one of the long guns, is it best glass the whole barrel?just the last few inches of stock? let it set up with all the bands in place? pressure points? Replies greatly appreciated. lreed

Two considerations here:

1) if you plan to shoot competition be careful as to how you alter an 'as issed' rifle.
2) if you do bed, begin with the action first and then add pressure points to the barrel channel and monitor the changes - don't bed the barrel first up.

If you must bed, I'd stick to just bedding the action. Bedding the barrel with the bands could throw the harmonics off & do more harm than good.
